With regard to gravy being in both the safe & unsafe column, here's a little clarification:

Most gravy contains onion and/or garlic, which is toxic for both dogs and cats, even in small amounts. In fact, anything in the onion or garlic family (including scallions, leeks and other similar vegetables) is a no-go.

However, if you’ve made the gravy yourself and are 100% sure it doesn’t contain onion or garlic, and not too much salt, you can give them a little taste! Try topping your pet’s usual food with a small amount.

When I am training a dog, I use the phrases "emotional response" or "emotional state". A lot of folks have a tendency to ask about the anthropomorphic factor of using those terms. We see it time and time again. Dogs get adopted and it’s a joyous occasion… Then, usually within a few days to a few weeks, they get returned. Don’t get us wrong, sometimes it really just isn’t a good fit; but oftentimes, it’s because the dog was not given the time it takes to decompress, adjust and acclimate.

How would you feel if everything you’ve ever known changed in an instant? Would it be smooth sailing and you’d be your best self within a matter of hours? Ya… we didn’t think so either.

Bringing a pet into the family can be one of the best and happiest things! But please, make sure you’re doing your research and giving them a fair chance to succeed and to get to know you, your home, your family and their brand new life. 🏡
