💔 We Need Your Help to Protect Their Future 💔

For more than 40 years, the original Big Dog Building at Hillside SPCA has been a place of hope. Behind those walls, thousands of dogs (and originally cats, too) have found safety after being abandoned, neglected, abused, injured, lost, or simply forgotten. Countless wagging tails have walked through its doors on their way to a second chance. For decades, it has been the place where frightened dogs learned to trust again and where forever families found their best friends.

But today, that building is reaching the end of its life. After four decades of wear and tear, we are at the point where repairs are no longer possible. Our greatest fear is that we've reached the point where we'll no longer pass inspection. When that happens, we will no longer be able to house dogs.

Imagine Hillside not being here for a dog tied to a tree in the woods. A puppy that was hit by a car. A senior dog whose owner passed away. A litter of unwanted puppies with nowhere to go. That is a reality we never want to face.

Our goal is to demolish the aging building and replace it with a safe, modern facility that will serve homeless dogs for decades to come—a building designed to meet their needs, protect our staff, and ensure Hillside can continue answering the call when animals need us most. This isn't just a building project. It's a promise that future generations of homeless dogs will always have a safe place to land.

If Hillside has ever touched your heart, helped an animal you loved, reunited a lost pet, adopted out a furry family member, or simply given you hope in humanity, we are asking for your help today.

🐾 Every Story Starts With Someone Who Cares 🐾

Over the past few hours, we’ve shared the stories of animals like Philly, Corbin, Beginning, Minnow, Toast, and so many others.

Different stories. Different struggles. The same outcome: hope.

Because of your support, Hillside SPCA is able to provide medical care, food, shelter, rehabilitation, and love to animals who have nowhere else to turn. From emergency surgeries and specialized diets to warm beds and second chances, every donation makes a real difference.

Every animal that comes through our doors deserves the opportunity to heal, thrive, and find a loving home. Your generosity helps make that possible.

As NEPA Gives winds down, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has donated, shared our posts, adopted, volunteered, fostered, sponsored, or supported Hillside SPCA in any way. Every act of kindness, no matter how big or small, helps us continue our mission.

Hillside SPCA is more than a shelter—it’s a community. We are able to save lives because of your compassion and generosity.

We are here because of YOU. ❤️ Together, we can continue changing lives—one paw at a time. ❤️🐾

❤️‍🩹 Two Stories. Two Miracles. Countless Second Chances. ❤️‍🩹

Her coat should have been bright white.

Instead, it was stained yellow from being forced to sit in her own urine for days. Her feet were raw. Her eyes were bloodshot. She was covered in fleas. Her nails had curled from neglect. She was painfully thin—skin and bones.

The smell of ammonia coming from her coat was so strong it burned our eyes.

Yet despite everything she had endured, she greeted us with kindness. She was gentle. She knew basic commands. She trusted people.

We named her Beginning, because her story wasn’t going to end there. She deserved a fresh start. A new beginning. ❤️

Then there was Minnow.

Found alone in the woods, Minnow was the thinnest dog many of us had ever seen. Looking at her was heartbreaking. You could see every bone. We wondered if she had the strength to survive.

But thanks to our supporters, she didn’t have to fight alone.

Beginning and Minnow both arrived broken, neglected, and in desperate need of help. Hillside SPCA gave them a safe place to land. We provided medical care. We provided food. We provided love. We stood by them every step of the way until they were healthy enough to find the families they were always meant to have.

Today, both of these girls had the happy endings they deserved.

And those happy endings were only possible because people like you made them possible.

❤️ Two Lives Changed by Compassion ❤️

Corbin was left out in the cold.

A kind person noticed him hanging around outside and knew something wasn’t right. They brought him to Hillside SPCA, where we discovered he was suffering from frostbite, severely underweight, and desperately hungry. We don’t know how long he had been surviving on his own, but despite everything he had endured, he never stopped purring.

The moment food was placed in front of him, he devoured it.

That day, we made him a promise: he would never know hunger again.

Not long after Corbin came Brandy.

This sweet senior girl was found standing in the middle of the road while cars swerved around her. Thankfully, one person refused to leave her behind. They stopped, picked her up, and brought her to safety.

Since arriving at Hillside, we’ve been working to help Brandy gain weight and regain her strength. Recently, we learned she is battling kidney disease, but we’re committed to giving her the care, comfort, and medical attention she deserves.

Corbin and Brandy have different stories, but they share one thing in common: someone cared enough to help, and because of your support, Hillside SPCA was able to be there when they needed us most.

💜 Meet Mega 💜

Mega's story is one we hear far too often.

This beautiful 6-year-old girl was found as a stray, despite already being spayed and clearly having known love at some point in her life. Thankfully, the family who found her cared enough to make sure she was safe. One young boy became especially attached to her, giving her the name Mega and showering her with affection while she waited for help.

Now Mega is with us, and she's everything you'd want in a companion—sweet, gentle, affectionate, and completely unbothered by other cats. While we don't know how she ended up on her own, we do know she deserves a second chance at a forever home.

Your support helps make stories like Mega's possible. It helps provide food, shelter, medical care, and a safe place for lost and abandoned animals while they wait for the families they're meant to find.

💜 Meet Koi 💜

Koi’s story is still being written, but thanks to a few compassionate people, it now has a chance at a happy ending.

When Koi was being given away for free, someone saw her and immediately knew she needed help. They didn’t look the other way. They picked her up and brought her straight to Hillside SPCA.

Did we have room? Not really.

But when an animal is in need, you find a way.

Koi arrived shut down, skinny, and covered in filth. Despite several baths, she still has a long way to go before she’s fully clean. It’s also clear that something isn’t right with her back legs or hips, and she’ll need further evaluation and care.

Right now, our focus is helping Koi feel safe, putting some much-needed weight on her, and giving her the love and medical attention she deserves. For the first time in a long time, she doesn’t have to worry about where her next meal is coming from or whether anyone cares.

That’s because of you.

Your support allows us to say “yes” when animals like Koi need help, even when space is tight and the road ahead is uncertain.

🧡 Toast’s Journey 🧡

More than a year ago, Toast came to Hillside SPCA as a stray in desperate need of help. His face was severely swollen, and he was battling a painful infection that had clearly been left untreated for far too long.

Since then, Toast has undergone numerous surgeries and procedures in an effort to heal. Through it all, he’s shown incredible resilience and has been lucky enough to spend his recovery with a wonderful foster family who has provided the calm, clean environment he needs to keep fighting.

Most recently, Toast underwent a major surgery—a double ear ablation, meaning both of his ear canals were removed—to finally address the chronic infection that has affected him for so long.

We are hopeful that this surgery will be the turning point in Toast’s journey and that the family who has loved and cared for him throughout his recovery will soon be able to make him a permanent member of their family.

Stories like Toast’s are only possible because of supporters like you. Medical cases can be costly, lengthy, and unpredictable, but every animal deserves a chance to heal and be loved.

❤️ Charles Pucker’s Story ❤️

When Charles Pucker was found as a stray, it was immediately clear that he needed urgent medical attention.

He was brought to Hillside SPCA, where our staff quickly evaluated him and got him the care he desperately needed. What followed was a long road to recovery that included not one, not two, but FOUR surgeries to correct a pr*****ed a**s.

One of those emergencies happened on a Sunday. Thanks to the on-site spay and neuter clinic that our supporters helped make possible, our veterinarian was able to drop everything, suit up, and come to Charles’s rescue when he needed it most.

That is the impact of your donations.

Because of your generosity, we have the resources, equipment, and medical facilities to provide lifesaving care when emergencies happen. Because of you, animals like Charles get a fighting chance.

Every donation helps us continue to be there for the animals who arrive at our doors sick, injured, neglected, or simply out of options.
