Maple Moose Rattery & Rescue

Maple Moose Rattery & Rescue Located in the North Country, NY. A q***r ran business of quirky rat folks. Always temperment tested.

In the process of attaining 501c3 status as a nonprofit rescue. We have been rescuing rodends including the medically complex for 8 years.

This is hard for me to write but we have lost all of our males. The illness was brought in by our rescues and despite quarentining and treating them before introducing them to our males, they passed and every single one of our males passed.

I have three girls left and after this I will be letting them live the rest of their lives as pets and shutting the doors on our Rattery at least for the foreseeable future.

Love from Strawberry, Baby, and Frida.

Edit to add that I’m still happy to courtesy post or refer to other breeders in my network. I will most likely continue to post photos of my own rats or expos I go to.

Two male rats looking for a home. Owner found out they are allergic to rats. Please let me know if you have contact information you would like me to pass on to the owner if you are looking to adopt a rescue!

Edit: if you’re interested the supplies come with the rats for $150 and we are also happy to help you with anything you need to know post adoption (resources, medical, etc) even though these aren’t our rats.

It’s a good day to be a rat in a soft blanket ❤️

If you sent a message about our spring litter, our next litter is delayed due to medical issues. I will be posting an update asap to update the timeline.

Thank you to the pig who started it all ❤️ you are sorely missed.

*fingers crossed* in the legacy of Emmie we will be opening our nonprofit in person in the next two months!

Please join us when we do for art, socialization, warmth, and to meet our beautiful rodent family!

We will be taking surrenders when our in person location opens.

We are also taking volunteers who love rodents, would like to teach arts (youth or adult groups), or are excited to learn about rodents.

Bucket is almost completely healed. Today we are in the process of filling out the forms to set up our 501c3 for our rescue.

We will be reintroducing Bucket and Chester within the next two weeks and seeing how they do together once they are clear of mites.

Thank you for donating and helping us do the work we do.

TW: pet death

This is the life of medical rescuing. I’ve been taking in medically fragile animals for a long time. Sometimes no matter what I do they still pass away and leave too many days unlived.

I’m not hard to it. I cried for an hour this morning. Sméagol took her last breath in my hands in a heated blanket to keep her as comfortable as possible.

I will still continue to rescue the medically fragile and give them the best care possible no matter how short their time on this earth is. 4 months is too short to live in my opinion.

She was precious and bubbly and gave lots of kisses and will be missed…

Update on our medically fragile rats:

Sméagol should be back in her cage within a week or two. She is eating critical care on her own and drinking water but still has not eaten dry food. She is no longer dehydrated and is running around.

Chester has been treated with antibiotics for a minor wound on his face and was shaved to check for any other injuries. He will be receiving medication for mites tomorrow. He is happy to eat wet or dry food and take water. He should be able to leave his quarantine as soon as we are sure his mites are gone.

Bucket we are still quite concerned about. His fever has broken as of this morning. We are keeping his body and wounds clean. He is still being checked on every couple of hours by myself personally. He is being fed critical care by syringe. His side appears to be healing a bit. We will be seeing an in person exotics vet as soon as possible. He will be receiving medication for his mites tomorrow.

If you appreciate the 24/7 work we are doing for these animals please consider donating 👇
