Our Little Tikes Doggie Etiquette 101 series kicks off Saturday, September 5 — a multi-week class where kids ages 6–12 train right alongside their pup. Together they'll practice polite greetings, loose-leash walking, reading dog body language, and basic cues — in a safe, supportive, positive-reinforcement environment.

FUN FACT FRIDAY:

With a heat spike expected in the metropolitan area next week, it's important to protect our pets' paws. To test pavement temperature, gently touch it with the back of your hand for 10 seconds. If it feels too hot or causes a burn, it's likely unsafe for your dog’s paws. Remember, as air temperatures rise, so does the heat of asphalt. Also, keep in mind that high temperatures increase the risk of heat stroke.

Early Warning Signs:

Heavy panting: Breathing is fast and loud, even when resting.

Discolored gums: Gums and tongue turn bright red, purple, or very pale.

Thick drool: Saliva becomes sticky, thick, or ropey.

Weakness: Your dog seems very tired, slows down, or refuses to move.

Severe Symptoms

Stomach upset: Vomiting or diarrhea, which may contain blood.

Confusion: Your dog acts dizzy, stumbles, or cannot walk straight.

Fast heartbeat: The pulse races or feels irregular.

Collapse: Your dog falls over, faints, or becomes unresponsive.

Seizures: Full-body tremors, fitting, or coma.

If you see these signs, cool your dog down with water and visit an emergency vet immediately.
