It is the time of year for high temps and humidity, which means the danger of heat stroke is rising for our pets. We have already seen a few cases in the last week.
Heat stroke does not take long to set in. Here are some signs to watch for:
Heavy breathing or panting
Bright red gums
Lethargy
Seizures
If your pet is having a heat stroke, here are some steps to follow:
Seek veterinary medical attention immediately
Get your pet into a cool area
Use cool (not ice water) to wet them down
Place a fan on them
Do not use ice or alcohol to cool your pet. This can cause their temperature to drop too quick and cause shock.
Above all be safe! If it is too hot and humid for you it is too hot and humid for your pet.
