Aspen Veterinary Service We are dedicated to providing professional vet care with no appointment necessary to all household pets.

Rest assured, your pet will receive the necessary treatment they deserve, giving you peace of mind. The intent of Aspen Veterinary Service is to be available without an appointment routine medical conditions and all urgent care. This may be allergic reactions, difficulty birthing, trauma, toxin ingestion, or any other condition that should not wait overnight or through the weekend. If you are unsure if you have a true emergency, please call us at (208) 777-2707. Usually, if you are worried, then your pet should be seen. You know your pet better than anybody, and if you suspect something is wrong, then you are probably right! The clinic also provides a continuation of care for those patients being treated by their regular veterinarian for ongoing illnesses such as cancer, internal organ disease, poison recovery, and post-surgical monitoring. Aspen Veterinary Service is equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment including digital x-ray, ultrasound, and an in-house laboratory with the capability of providing blood analysis in about twenty minutes. Time is of the essence, since there is no telling what a dog may have gotten into! When the clinic is open, at least one doctor is on staff. All the doctors of Aspen Veterinary Service are well qualified and eager to help. They can provide blood transfusions, emergency surgery, pain management, and diagnostic testing and treatment. The only service Aspen Veterinary Service does not provide is care of wildlife. If you happen to find an injured raptor, we are a relay station for a rehabilitation facility, which requires a phone call to the rehabilitation center BEFORE bringing the bird to Aspen Veterinary Service. Good Samaritans wishing to help all other wild animals should contact their local Fish and Game Department. Payment is always due at time of service, no exceptions. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, AmEx, Cherry, and Care Credit. For more information about Care Credit please visit www.carecredit.com, and information about Cherry is available at www.withcherry.com or by contacting us for a direct email link.

The CDC has issued a nationwide health advisory after reporting a noticeable rise in human exposures to rabid or potentially rabid animals across the United States.

From July through August 2026, the CDC received 17% more rabies-related inquiries than during the same period in 2025. Importantly, this does not mean human rabies cases increased by 17%. The figure reflects increased reports, consultations and potential exposure events, including several mass-exposure incidents.

The advisory comes as multiple U.S. jurisdictions report increased encounters with animals suspected or confirmed to have rabies. At least eight state health departments also reported increases in rabies post-exposure prophylaxis — or problems with how those treatments were administered.

Pharmacy data through September 2 showed an estimated 33% increase in rabies vaccine use and a striking 76% increase in human rabies immune globulin use compared with the same period last year.

Rabies remains one of the deadliest infectious diseases known: once clinical symptoms appear, it is nearly always fatal. The good news is that infection can be prevented when appropriate post-exposure treatment is given before symptoms begin.

The CDC advises anyone bitten, scratched or potentially exposed to a rabid animal to wash the wound thoroughly and seek medical or public-health guidance promptly rather than waiting for symptoms.
