Little Nugget, a 5 month old mix is so much fun to train. He is a very happy and really confident little guy. I am so impressed with him. With his owner, we started recall training by doing a few reps at the end of our session. He loved it! He could get to me fast enough, no hesitation, turned on a dime, and bolted to me in a direct line on the 20ft longline. He is going to be a wonderful dog!

My little guy that I got from a family 9 months ago came as a resource guarder, with major leash reactivity/aggression toward people and dogs. He has come a long way with lots and lots of training. He is my buddy, always with me or wanting to know where I am. He is great with Emma from day 1 and know has good relationship with Betsy. We are still working on his leash, dog reactivity while his leash reactivity towards people has dramatically improved.

Joey, just adopted a few days ago, learning how to walk on a leash in busy Newport. He did awesome with his new owners. He is going to be a great dog. Like many dogs, he reacts to bikes and some dogs, but he is very responsive on redirect.

Karl and Max learning how to walk on a longline without pulling and listening to a few commands even while being distracted.
I have a soft spot for hunting dogs like pointers, and hounds. Typically they have such sweet dispositions when not in the field, get along with other dogs, people, kids. They give off such a calming vibe. The draw back is they need their exercise and they need to use their nose and their prey drive can be overwhelming for many owners. So they do best with active people and leash training can take much longer since they typically dont want to please you, they jusy want to follow their nose. Karl walks Max on a longline every day 3 to 5 miles. My girl Emma, a German Short Hair Pointer even at 8 years old needs her daily walk, run on her 30ft longline preferably in an open space so she can hunt and point!

What a treat to work with Rex and his owner today. Rex is adorable, whip smart, high energy, a dog trainer's dream. Rex only takes a few reps to understand what you want. The downside for many owners if not provided exercise, obedience and structure, they can spiral to be out of control. She was excellent today!!

Finished up with Iggy and his owners. He was so responsive to training due to motivated owners who put in the work and could see his improvements week to week. His obedience improved, his leash walking and running did too making training enjoyable for his owners. As a dog trainer, seeing dogs and their owners flourish through training is so rewarding. Iggy is more handsome in person and such a treat to in his presence.

Iggy and Matt learning together the down and stay command. Iggy is such a smart boy with a friendly disposition and willingness to learn and train. I really enjoy being a part of his journey with his attentive owners. While Iggy is very well behaved around many distractions its important to remember how powerful and strong they can be. 50 to 65 lbs of pure muscle so even well behaved, friendly dogs like Iggy need a solid foundation and training so if the occasion arises, Iggy and the owners rely on the training. For example if Iggy greats a person or dog with too much enthusiasm, while its good energy, many dogs and people will interpret it as too much and respond in a negative manner. So with powerful, energetic dogs, you want to be very mindful of not getting them over stimulated. So limit the interaction as appropriate; keeping distance, 3 second petting rule if petting is even allowed, no interaction, put into obedience, etc. Teaching impulse control in all situations.
