Spent a week back in Maine and Mass to see some clients and work remote so I could see the east coast family. We celebrated my folks 80th & 85th birthdays and of course I snuck out for a little time on the water. We never found that elusive blue fin tuna I had hoped for but man the squid and shark bite were on fire (all sharks were safely released to go grow into monsters).

A major highlight for me was quiet mornings with my folks, just the three of us talking while I cooked. Getting to see my dad enjoy lobsters and the stuffed squid for breakfast will be a life long memory. Getting dad’s approval that the cooking student has become the master, meant the world to me.

Man I love chinook! What a great reward after grinding it out the last two days with some scratchy fishing. We also had an amazing sunrise, a pod of orcas for a visit and birds enjoying some driftwood.

A little latergram from my trip to Elfin Cove, AK. What an amazing experience to visit Alaska and do a self guided saltwater fishing trip. Waters Edge Lodge was a great place and the staff and service was beyond expectations. 5 days fishing with close friends, whales, otters, puffins, stellar seasonings, eagles and massive snowcapped peaks just added to the stoke. Freezer is well stocked with fish for a while, and I am@already dreaming of going back sometime.

Trail Days 2026 always fills the soul. From the “family” reunion of the misfits who work in the industry that have become like family to me to making the trail magic happen for young hikers on the journey of their lifetime, it’s always restores my faith in humanity. I couldn’t think of better way to celebrate my 30 years of thru-hiking than going for hike than spending 4 days in trail town USA.

Got to go backpacking before this week with two friends on the Va Triple Crown. It was so much fun to revisit the area between my thru-hike of the AT and living in Blacksburg for years this area was my old stomping grounds.

It was so much fun for me and to introduce to southern Appalachians and all the wonders of one of the most biodiverse places in the world.

Annual Tilly Jane winter trip was a blast. A little more snow would have been nice, but I’ll take what I can get these days. By far the warmest and calmest weather we have ever had up here. ❄️
