Hey y'all, we've joined some of our friend shops, and have brought in the Bristol Bay Belly Bites and Salmon & Seaweed Toppers!

A little bit about them: (unfortunately there isn't a salmon emoji 😕)

🐟 They were founded by a Bristol Bay commercial fisherman who still fishes the bay today, and their business partner who is a longtime consumer products operator based in Portland, OR.

🐟 Made from sustainably harvested wild Alaskan sockeye salmon, that comes from one of the most sustainable MSC Certified Fisheries.

🐟 They use smaller portions that don't meet the retail size requirements.

🐟 High in protein and omega -3 fatty acids

🐟 We carry the Belly Bites that are single-ingredient, freeze-dried wild sockeye salmon filets in small bite sized pieces.

If you're a middle aged woman, or maybe you're neurodivergent, or are a sleep deprived parent, or a sleep deprived 20 something year old, or anyone with brain fog, who feeds raw food, here's my hot take...

Have a bag of freeze-dried, air-dried, dehydrated or canned food on hand for those times when you forget to thaw or even bring home your companion's regular raw food. This is also helpful in case of a power outage or other emergencies. Make sure you have a food you know they'll eat and digest, well before this situation occurs.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit how many times I (perimenopausal woman) forget to bring home food for Marge, or take her food out of the freezer to put in the fridge the night before. It's often!!

I always have a bag of smallbatch pets freeze dried sliders ready to fill her bowl in these situations. I just crumble them into the bowl and add warm water to get some moisture back. Viola! Breakfast is served.

Hey cat folks, we've got a couple of new foods in our freezer section that you should check out.

😻 First up is Rad Cat, by Tucker's. This isn't the same Rad Cat as you've maybe fed before, it's a new kinda RC. This one comes in easy to use 6oz packages and is available in chicken, chicken & tuna, beef, salmon & beef, and pork recipes. You can choose between chunky grinds and smooth paté for all flavors. The diets are 95% meat & organ with 5% miscanthus grass (fiber), dried whole egg, brewers yeast, menhaden oil, and vitamins and minerals. Meow!!

😻 Next up, is California Cat Kitchen made by California Dog Kitchen, aka Cali Dog. They are also offering two textures, smooth (paté like) and ground (looks like ground meat). Their line is available in chicken & salmon, and beef & po***ck. These diets are 99% meat with psyllium seed husk, chia seeds, nutritional yeast, and vitamins and minerals. Lightly cooked, just thaw in fridge, add warm water to take the chill off, and serve. A 5oz container is a great starting spot for a 10 # cat and a great canned food replacement. Prrrrr!

Yesterday was another fabulous drop-in vet clinic at Portland Animal Welfare Team

I left at 2:30pm and they were just about to continue checking in and seeing the last 8-10 folks in line. That means today they will have seen over 65 pets! Amazing!!

Bridgetown Vet Emergency + Referral did a clinic takeover and brought 5 vets, along with techs, assistants, and administrators to help make the day run smoothly. I love when vet clinics do take overs, it often means even more animals get seen because of how well the team knows each other and works together.

The theme of the day was reactive dog. There were so many dogs that didn't do well around other dogs, so keeping them seperated became the challenge of the day. Luckily there were a ton of volunteers on hand to make that happen!!

I love volunteering with Portland Animal Welfare Team it's been a great way to help the community and fill my cup. They provide such an amazing service to low income and houseless folks. A lot of folks rely on these drop in clinics to keep their housing, because they are able to get vaccines, flea preventative, licensing, along with the check up.

Y'all, the talk we had with Greg Tilford from Animal Essentials was so frigging informative!!

My only wish is that we had a few hours to chat with him, and not just an hour and a half. He is a wealth of knowledge and is obsessed with herbs!

Here are a few notes that I took:
** these aren't medical claims, but herbs have been around for thousands of years helping animals and humans alike.

Detox Blend - helps replenish liver cells thanks to the milk thistle seeds it contains

Olive leaf - anti-pathonagenic, can be used in place of antibiotics, antimicrobial, antiviral. Bad ass!

Colon Rescue - probiotic & prebiotic. Protects the gut lining, and helps loosen stool, and firm up stool. Whatever is needed. Use the powder form for lower gi issues, since it doesn't absorb as quickly as the tincture.

Hairball Relief - marshmallow lubricates the digestive tract and helps stuff slow on through

Seasonal Allergy - stinging nettle causes the body to not make more histamines. Licorice is anti-inflammatory

Tranquil Times - skullcap calms nerve endings, passion flower helps with emotional issues, oat flower helps the nervous system, valerian calms the gut.

Senior Support - made up of a bunch of herbs to support senior animals. Great for kidney cats and dogs.

Oregon grape - great for getting rid of tearstains
