Family Animal Services has been handling and caring for your pets after they are gone since 1994. We have a sensitive approach to handling the loss of your pet you will not find anywhere else. Conveniently located in Portland, OR we serve the Portland Metro area as well as Vancouver, WA and surrounding areas. Losing Your Pet Facing the loss of your pet, whether expected or sudden can be a very traumatic experience. At times it can be overwhelming and pet owners may be confused as to how to handle the loss. Sometimes the thought of leaving your pet at the veterinary clinic is very uncomfortable and some families with pets choose to take care of the body of their loved one in other ways. Pets have become a part of the family and that is why pet owners often wish to deal with the death of their companions through burial or cremation.

There's a stretch of time near the end that nobody prepares you for. The days still look normal from the outside. You still take the walks, still make the meals, still sit together in the same spots. But you know. You feel it in the ordinary parts of the day, the ones you used to take for granted. Not doing anything special. Just being together while there's still "together" to be.
People love to say things like "cherish every moment," and it's not wrong, but it's also not the whole truth. You can cherish every single moment and still not be ready when it ends. Both things live in the same chest at the same time. The gratitude doesn't cancel out the grief, and the grief doesn't erase the gratitude. They just sit there together, taking up the same space, refusing to pick a side.
If you're in that stretch right now — the one where you're loving someone hard while also quietly bracing for the goodbye — I don't have anything that makes it easier. I just want you to know you're not alone.
