Training builds confidence. Not just in your dog but in YOU.

When you have a skill set walking into the unknown isn’t as scary. This was our first time staying the night at Edgefield. I didn’t worry about that. We just did what we do everyday.

That practice gives me the confidence to guide her. She can feel that. Lucy did great there! No barking, we enjoyed the show and the soaking pool! Amazing weekend!

When you and your dog know what to do anything can happen.

Anxiety in dogs isn’t usually fixed with a trick or a supplement. It’s fixed with structure, fulfillment, and time. Save this if your dog needs it. 🐾

If walks feel like a battle or you’ve stopped inviting your dog places, that’s not a you problem, you just haven’t had the right foundation yet. Smart Start private lessons are five in-home sessions built around your dog’s actual behaviors, not a cookie cutter program.

4 Week Essentials is closed. Back October 1st.

I know waiting sucks when you’re dealing with stuff right now. If you comment “tacos” I’ll add you to the waitlist, you’ll get early bird pricing when it reopens, before anyone else sees it.

A recall isn’t just a recall.

This looks simple. I call her, she comes in, she gets a treat, she goes back to sniffing. Twenty seconds of footage.

What you’re not seeing: the relationship built before this clip existed. The structure around her freedom. The fact that coming to me has never once meant fun stops. The reps in low distraction environments before we ever tried this without a leash.

A recall isn’t a cue. It’s the byproduct of everything that came before the cue.

If you’re only working on the word “come,” you’re working on the wrong thing.

Sometimes just repping it out is a good way to get what you’re looking for.

Your dog will learn that when they do x it equals y. The main thing is maintain your expectations. If you ask for it one day and then don’t the next. It will leave your dog confused.

Boscoe and fam graduate from their smart start in home lesson program.

A few months ago these were brand new puppy owners, doing what most people do: googling things at 11pm, guessing at what’s “normal,” hoping the chewing/jumping/biting phase just… passes.

Now they’ve got the fundamentals down. Not because the puppy is “trained,” but because they know what they’re doing. How to set up the environment. How to respond in the moment. What’s actually worth correcting and what’s just puppy being puppy.

That’s the part people miss about early training. It’s not about producing a finished dog in a few months. It’s about giving you a foundation so you’re not just reacting to your puppy’s whole life, you’re actually raising them.

Next stop for this crew: group class, where they’ll start building those same skills around real distraction, other dogs, and real-world chaos.

If you’ve got a puppy and you’re still in the googling-at-11pm phase, this is your sign. Comment PUPPY and we’ll get you started.

2010: my first dog. mostly easy. I thought I knew what I was doing.

Then I met Oso.

He couldn’t do what she could, and for a long time I thought that meant something was wrong with him. It didn’t. It meant I had a lot to learn.

12 years, a lot of tears, and a lot of growth later.

Oso is the reason I do this work the way I do it now. Rest easy, buddy. 🐾

This may be the most common assumption for draining a dog energy.

A lot of dog owners assume that if they really want to tire their dog out, it has to come from running and playing with other dogs. So they go looking for a dog park or an adventure group, thinking that’s the thing that’ll finally solve the problem.

But if your dog’s reactive or aggressive, that door’s closed, and even if it wasn’t, it’s not actually the fix people think it is. You don’t need another dog to drain your dog’s energy. You need engagement and structure. Here are four ways to start today, no dog park required:

👉 Front yard, long line, Get It game
👉 Backyard or sidewalk, long line, just play
👉 Mid-walk, stop and do the Get It game, then keep moving
👉 At the park, long line, let them explore while you watch for distractions.

If your dog can’t do any of this yet, that’s exactly what I teach in 4 Week Essentials. Comment ESSENTIALS and I’ll send you the details.
