A little reminder that staying on top of your pet’s wellness care can make a big difference in keeping those tails wagging and purrs going. Wildfire season isn’t just hard on us, it can be hard on our pets too.

Smoke can irritate your pet’s eyes and airways, especially if they’re seniors, brachycephalic (smoosh faced), have asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions. Even healthy pets can be affected when air quality is poor.

If your pet seems to be struggling to breathe or their symptoms aren’t improving after getting indoors, give us a call. We’re happy to help determine whether they should be seen.

🌡️ Think it’s okay to leave your pet in the car “just for a minute?” Think again.

Even on a mild 70 degree day, the inside of a parked car can reach 89 degrees in just 10 minutes and climb to 115 degrees after an hour. On hotter days, temperatures can become life threatening in a matter of minutes.

Pets can’t cool themselves down as efficiently as we can, making them much more vulnerable to heatstroke. Cracking the windows or parking in the shade isn’t enough to keep your car safe for pets.

This summer, the safest choice is simple:
🐾 Leave your pet at home if they can’t come inside with you
💧 Keep fresh water available during outdoor adventures
🌳 Plan walks and playtime during the cooler parts of the day

A quick errand isn’t worth the risk. Help keep every tail wagging safely this summer! 💜 ☀️

☀️ 🐾 Wellness Wednesday 🐾 ☀️

As we head into the hottest part of summer, it’s a great time to ensure your pets are set up for safe and happy adventures!

Whether you’re hiking, visiting the park, spending time on the patio, or heading out on vacation, a little preparation goes a long way. Make sure your pet is up to date on their vaccines and year round flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives, and remember to plan around the heat. Early morning or evening walks, plenty of fresh water, access to shade, and avoiding hot pavement can help keep them comfortable and safe.

Keep an eye out for signs of overheating like excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If your pet seems too hot, move them to a cool area and contact your veterinarian right away!

One of the greatest gifts we can give our pets is the chance to stay healthy!

Wellness exams give us the opportunity to celebrate what’s going well, answer your questions, and look for subtle changes that your dog or cat may not be able to show you. When we catch things early, we often have more options and can help keep your pets feeling their best for years to come.
