A quick reminder to check your dog’s equipment. 🐾
During a walk today, we went to adjust a harness and noticed part of the clip had cracked — something that isn’t always visible until you’re looking closely.
Collars, harnesses, and leashes go through a lot — daily wear, pulling, moisture, and even salt exposure here in Maine can cause materials to weaken over time.
A quick check every so often can help prevent something from failing when you least expect it.
Proper fit matters too — not too loose, not too tight — just secure and comfortable for your dog. With thicker or longer coats, we always check fit against the body rather than the fur, since coats can make things look like they fit when they’re actually too loose.
If a harness tends to shift or slide to one side, that’s often a sign it isn’t fitted closely enough, and if it’s already adjusted as tight as it can go, it may be worth sizing down.
Collars should follow the same principle — snug enough that they can’t slip over your dog’s head, but still comfortable for everyday wear. Coat thickness, excess skin, and individual build can all affect fit, so it’s worth checking regularly to make sure everything stays secure.
It’s a small detail, but one that makes a big difference in keeping walks safe and stress-free. 💗
