Another MH title achiever this summer. Kid finished his title at about 26 months. Congratulations to his owner Jeff McKeown and to Kid for being such a nice dog to work with.

Had to get up at 5:45 this morning and when I went outside, this is what I saw. I’ve seen a halo around the sun, but never around the moon. I thought this was super cool. Also saw lots of stars some of which you can see in the photos.

A ring around the moon—known scientifically as a 22° lunar halo—means that moonlight is refracting (bending) through tiny ice crystals suspended in high-altitude clouds.
Scientific Meaning
Ice Crystals: The ring forms when light from a bright moon passes through millions of hexagonal ice crystals in thin, wispy cirrus or cirrostratus clouds high in the atmosphere.
Prism Effect: These ice crystals act like tiny prisms, bending the moonlight at a consistent 22-degree angle to create a large, glowing circle around the moon.
Weather Meaning (Folklore & Fact)
You may have heard the old saying, “A ring around the moon means rain or snow is coming soon.
The Science Behind the Saying: High cirrus clouds are often the very first sign of an approaching storm system or warm front moving in from hundreds of miles away.
Prediction: While it might be clear overhead when you see the halo, it frequently indicates that rain or snow will arrive within the next 24 to 48 hours.
