Seeing your dog limp can be deeply worrying. In our latest blog, we share five signs to watch for and explain what happens if your dog needs a surgical consultation. And since these two are pictured here, we’d love to tell you a little about them!

Dr. Courtney Gallant, DVM, DACVS (SA), earned her veterinary degree in Prince Edward Island, then completed a rotating internship at Oregon State University and a surgical internship and residency at Pieper Veterinary in Connecticut. She is a board-certified veterinary surgeon with special interests in complex orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. She loves working with families to find the right care for each pet.

Dr. Danielle Watt, DVM, earned her veterinary degree at Iowa State University, completed a rotating internship at Tufts University, and finished her surgical residency at Oregon State University. Her practice is limited to surgery, with special interests in fracture repair, knee surgery, and emergency surgery. Having been through surgeries with her own pets, she knows how much clear, compassionate guidance matters.

A limp doesn’t always mean surgery, but finding the cause matters. Read the blog here: https://www.sunstonevets.com/blog/when-does-a-limping-dog-need-a-surgeon-five-signs-to-watch-for/

Baeder came in with style — and a very important message. 💛

This very cute, very sweet 10-year-old labradoodle recently visited Sunstone Veterinary Specialists wearing a special collar that let people know she has Addison’s disease and requires medication. We do not see that every day, and we loved how thoughtful and prepared her family was!

Baeder is carefully managed by Dr. Debra Klaser, one of our internal medicine specialists, and the Sunstone team. Addison’s disease is a lifelong condition that can require ongoing medication, monitoring, and extra planning around stressful events.

Most importantly, Baeder was doing well at her recheck — and looking adorable while doing it. We love getting to care for sweet patients like her and are always grateful for dedicated families who know their pets so well. 🐾

Cleo is ready for her close-up! 📸✨

This adorable 15-year-old lady is as social as she is photogenic, and we are so happy to give her the spotlight she deserves.

Cleo has been diagnosed with small cell intestinal lymphoma, and her care has brought together both our Internal Medicine and Surgery services. Dr. Klaser, one of our internal medicine specialists, has been carefully managing Cleo’s ongoing care. Dr. Lillian Su, one of our board-certified surgeons, performed the intestinal biopsies that helped confirm her diagnosis.

Of course, Cleo also has a very dedicated family cheering her on every step of the way — and we love getting to be part of her team. Collaborative care is one of the things that makes specialty medicine so meaningful.

We love getting to care for sweet cats like Cleo. Thank you for brightening our day, beautiful girl! 💛🐾

Join us in celebrating two incredible achievements at Sunstone Veterinary Specialists! 🎉🐾

Dr. Taryn Pestalozzi has earned her board certification in Clinical Nutrition (DACVIM (Nutrition)), and Dr. Courtney Gallant has earned her board certification in Veterinary Surgery (DACVS (SA)).

Becoming a board-certified veterinary specialist requires years of advanced training beyond veterinary school, including completion of one or more rigorous internships (often including specialty internships), a multi-year residency program, and passing comprehensive specialty board examinations.

What does this mean for your pet? It means access to highly specialized, advanced care—from expert nutritional management to complex surgical procedures—all delivered with the highest level of expertise.

We are incredibly proud of Dr. Pestalozzi and Dr. Gallant for their dedication to veterinary medicine and their commitment to providing exceptional specialty care.

At Sunstone Veterinary Specialists, caring for pets starts with caring for our people. 💙🐾

Earlier this month, our team took a well-deserved pause for a cozy Craft Night—an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and connection. From painting to hands-on projects, it was a chance to relax, recharge, and simply enjoy time together outside of our fast-paced emergency and specialty environment.

Moments like these matter. They help strengthen the teamwork, compassion, and dedication that we bring to every patient and client who walks through our doors.

We’re so grateful for our incredible team and all they do to provide exceptional emergency and specialty veterinary care.
