Hi all~ I’m Lauren, a certified dog trainer in the Portland, Oregon area.

I love helping people and their dogs understand one another and learn new skills.

Here you’ll see a lot of my pups along with tips about deaf dogs and pups with big feelings.

Comment 1 fun fact about yourself below :)

5 things to know before getting a dog treadmill:

1. A treadmill does not replace daily walks or enrichment. It’s a helpful option in addition to those.

2. Use treats liberally to build positive experiences and then use consistently while your dog trots on the treadmill. I usually give part of my dogs’ meals during a treadmill session.

3. Take your time. Reward your dog for sniffing and investigating the treadmill. Then reward them for standing on it. Once that’s comfy start them at a very slow pace and give treats generously.🍪

4. There are some helpful safety features built into a dog-specific treadmill but a human treadmill will work too.

5. I find the treadmill most useful during periods of inclement weather. If the dogs cannot get out for a walk because of snow or hard rain, then we’ll have treadmill time in addition to other enrichment activities.

What are you thoughts on dog treadmills?

TFW you love the treats and attention from the gas station attendant 😊

🥰 After only a handful of fun interactions with gas station attendants Bane Buttercup is hooked!

As we pull up, he is ready to enthusiastically greet one of his favorite people knowing she’s ready with a treat and pets.

Just another powerful reminder that we can make certain people/places/contexts predict our dogs’ favorite things.

What’s something that predicts something great for your dog?

**Pic of a treat sent home from the gas station when Bane Buttercup was not in the car. Now that’s a dog lover right there ❤️

💓 Bodhi is often fearful of new things. We've had this elevated bed for months and this is the first time Bodhi has chosen to test it out. ✨

🐶 As a dog with many concerns and often big feelings about new situations, SO many things are just not a training priority. His brothers usually use the bed and he lounges on the grass. Whatever works!

➡️ For now, we’re focusing on keeping him healthy, appreciating him as he is and training when he feels up for it.

Bane Buttercup, Bodhi and Baloo. Three very different dogs with their own individual needs and preferences. I’ve learned SO much from them and would never have become a trainer without them ❤️
