This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Neurologic problems don’t always look dramatic. Sometimes the first sign is simply a change in the way a pet walks, stands or moves.

Seizures, weakness, difficulty walking, balance changes, and neck or back pain can all warrant a neurologic evaluation.

If something suddenly seems different, a neurologic consultation can help determine where the problem may be occurring and what the next steps should be.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

A very special milestone for VSECK Radiation Oncology!🎓

We’re so excited to finally share a photo from a moment we’ll never forget — the graduation of our very first Radiation Oncology patient! 💙

This milestone represents so much more than the end of a treatment plan. It represents resilience, hope, incredible teamwork, and the trust our clients place in our team to care for their beloved family members.

We couldn’t be more proud of our Radiation Oncology team and grateful to everyone who helped make this moment possible. Here’s to our first of many graduations! 🎓🐾

Congratulations to our very first graduate! 💙

🐾 Double the care, double the Spartan Pride! 💚

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome two outstanding new emergency veterinarians to the VCA VSECK team! Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Dr. Lacie Acosta and Dr. Cameron Higgs!

Both of these incredibly talented doctors recently earned their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. They are bringing their advanced training, dedication, and passion for urgent care straight to our patients.

🥎 Meet Dr. Lacie Acosta

‣From Division I Athlete to the ER: Before veterinary school, Dr. Acosta was a Division I softball student-athlete at the University of the Incarnate Word.

‣Critical Care Expertise: She spent two years in the Emergency and Critical Care department at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, Texas, where she developed her passion for guiding families through unexpected medical emergencies.

‣Off-Duty: When she isn't caring for critically ill patients, she loves exploring the outdoors, traveling, and enjoying Michigan's natural beauty with her husband, Alonso, and their two dogs, Bella Roux and Rocky.

🎖️ Meet Dr. Higgs

‣14+ Years of Service: In addition to his veterinary career, Dr. Higgs has served for more than 14 years in the Michigan Army National Guard. This experience has shaped his dedication to leadership, teamwork, and remaining calm under pressure—essential skills in emergency medicine!

‣MSU Trained: Dr. Higgs completed his clinical training directly through the MSU Veterinary Medical Center, focusing heavily on surgery, critical care, and client education.

‣Off-Duty: Outside the hospital, Dr. Higgs loves staying active and spending quality time with his family.

We are so proud to have these two dedicated Spartan veterinarians on our team to provide compassionate, high-quality emergency care when your pet needs it most.

We have some VERY important new friends in the clinic… 🐥💛

A batch of baby ducks has officially hatched, and they have immediately appointed themselves as the main characters of the hospital. Tiny peeps, tiny feet, big opinions.

They are currently working on their rounds, mostly consisting of wandering, napping, and looking extremely cute while doing absolutely nothing productive.

And in a completely scientific development, meet Penny 🐶💗—the pug of one of our associates—who has been fully captivated by the duckling department. She has been observed staring in what can only be described as “profound admiration.”

In a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital, we see a lot—but occasionally, we also get ducklings stealing the spotlight and reminding us that joy shows up in the smallest (and fluffiest) ways.

Enjoy the cuteness. We certainly are. 🐣✨

Big news for our community!!! 🎉

We are SO excited to announce that our Radiation Oncology service is officially OPEN!! 🐾

This is a huge milestone for all of us at VCA VSECK, and we are beyond proud to now offer advanced radiation therapy right here for the pets who need it most!

This means more options, more hope, and more cutting-edge care for pets and families navigating a cancer diagnosis ❤️‍🩹

A massive thank you to our incredible team, our referring veterinarians, and our community for helping make this dream a reality—you got us here!! 🙌💙

To help us celebrate this launch, meet Reign 🐾—a sweet boxer who recently visited Dr. Stanton and our Radiation Oncology team for evaluation of a brain lesion. Reign is just one example of the patients who will now have access to this important, life-changing service right here at our hospital.

Radiation Oncology is NOW OPEN and accepting referrals and consultations; if you are looking for a consultation or to refer to Dr. Stanton please call us at 269-381-5228!! 📣📅

Here’s to expanding what’s possible in veterinary medicine!! 🚀🎊
