How Old Is Your Cat? Check the Teeth!

A cat’s teeth can provide valuable clues about its age. From tiny deciduous teeth in kittens to the development of permanent teeth, dental changes follow a fairly predictable timeline.

📌 Quick Guide:
🐾 ~14 days — Tooth buds begin to appear
🐾 2–3 weeks — Deciduous incisors erupt
🐾 4–6 weeks — Most deciduous teeth are present
🐾 2–4 months — Permanent incisors begin replacing baby teeth
🐾 5–6 months — Canines and remaining incisors are replaced
🐾 ~6 months — Most/all permanent teeth are present
🐾 ~8 months — Permanent dentition is fully erupted

Important: Dental development is most useful for estimating the age of kittens and young cats. In adult cats, tooth wear, tartar, periodontal disease, and individual variation make age estimation less precise.
