We are still going strong on the 3rd day of our Fluffy Cow Coffee fundraiser! We thought we would provide some fun facts about coffee (and Cedar Lane Farms) that you may not know...
Thomas Jefferson called it “the favorite drink of the civilized world.” Well we think Fluffy Cow Coffee is probably our favorite coffee to drink! And you can grab it here: www.fluffycowcoffee.com/discount/CLF to see why we do!
With every purchase, Fluffy Cow Coffee will donate $2.50 to CLF's Feed a Farm Animal Program at www.cedarlanefarms.org. So check it out and grab a bag to today! Together we can end pet hunger!
Did you know:
1. Atmospheric pressure affects the bubbles in your coffee cup. If there are more bubbles in the center of the cup, expect rainy or stormy weather.
1(a) CLF is based in PNW, we know our coffee and our rain!
2. Coffee stays warm about 20% longer once cream is added.
2(b) CLF volunteers layer up in the winter and grab a cup of Fluffy Cow Coffee to stay warm while volunteering at our monthly pop up free pet food events!
3. Next to oil/petroleum, coffee is the most valuable exported and traded commodity in the world.
3(c) Our farm, its residents and our supporters ARE the most valuable thing in the world to us.
4. It was once required of Turkish grooms to vow during the wedding to always provide their wives with coffee. If the vow was broken, it was considered grounds for divorce.
4(d) OK so while no one is divorcing here at CLF there have been some serious discussions about who didnt reorder the Fluffy Cow Coffee this month!
5. The word espresso comes from Italian and means “to be forced out”. Espresso is made by forcing very hot water under high pressure through compacted and finely ground coffee.
Espresso has one-third the caffeine of a traditional brewed cup of coffee, and dark roast has less caffeine than light roast.
5(e) And here at CLF were thinking that its the Espresso shot thats been keeping us going all day..hmmm Maybe its just making sure our seniors and veterans have pet food for their beloved companions.
6. Coffee farmers profit about 4 cents for every pound of hand-picked coffee.
6(f) CLF is a non profit dedicated to provide free pet food livestock feed to those in need. The profit we see is the joy on a pet owners face!
7. Coffee drinkers are 25% less likely to develop gallstones.
7(g) CLF supporters are 25% more likely to feel good about buying Fluffy Cow Coffee and having a % of their purchase go to help support a worthly cause!
8. In 1674, a group of London women formed a group called the Women's Petition Against Coffee because they didn't like the amount of time their husbands spent in coffee houses rather than being home.
8(h) At CLF the partners of our dedicated volunteers ask "when ARE you coming home"? Uhmm when the work is done, dear. Wanna come help?
9. Beethoven made a cup of coffee daily and counted out exactly 60 beans every single time. He wouldn’t drink it otherwise.
9(i) CLF counts every donation as a blessing which directly helps all our residents and for those that need our help beyond the farm fence.
10. In 2001, Brazil produced a postal stamp that smelled like coffee and the scent ended up lasting 5 years.
10(j) CLF produces more manure in 1 day to fertilize the veggie garden and sometimes the smell can be, well, a bit "ripe". But it WORKS! And veggies are then donated to our local food bank!
10. Coffee is rich in nitrogen, making it an excellent fertilizer for gardens and stops snails, slugs, and worms from eating the plants.
10(k) Uhmmm what we just said in #10!
11. Water is the only beverage more popular than coffee.
11(l) There is nothing more popular at CLF than our beloved volunteers and feed recipients!
12. The USA, France, and Germany are responsible for 65% of the world’s coffee consumption. The Netherlands are the largest per capita consumers overall.
12(m) CLF distributes more that 5 tons of pet and livestock food a month to needy families.
13. Coffee beans are not really beans at all, but the seeds of the cherry fruit from a coffee shrub. Coffee shrubs can live 60 to 70 years, and don’t begin producing fruit for five years once planted.
13(n) Our volunteers are not really human, they are SUPER HUMAN and can work up to 15+ hrs a day on Fluffy Cow Coffee to just make sure food is distrubtued and everyone is fed and safe.
14. It takes approximately 100 beans to brew one cup of coffee.
14(o) It takes approximately 100 CLF volunteers a month to help supply our local in need farms and barns.
15. Caffeine from coffee is most effective when consumed between the hours of 9:30 to 11:30 am.
15(p) Our farm and distrobution work goes on all day but the caffeine from Fluffy Cow Coffee helps us to keep going!
And just one more, sooooo drum roll.....
Due to its high levels of antioxidants and nutrients such as riboflavin, magnesium, and potassium, coffee provides health benefits including a metabolism boost and a lowered risk of developing type-2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, and certain types of cancer.
While CLF may not be able to do all that, we certainly strive to address the unmet needs of Washington State residents, by providing free pet food, livestock feed, necessities, care and housing to pet and livestock owners including those who are homeless, veterans and seniors. We offer these services to help individuals and families gain stability and combat pet hunger, while helping to continue to foster the bond between pets and their owners.
