As a professional dog walker, it’s not only my job to show respect for your home and pets- but also your neighborhood!
So, here are some places where I do, VS don’t, allow my client dogs to use the bathroom, as told by Asim who loooooves to p*e wherever he can 😂
1️⃣ Public grass areas are fair game to all! Parks, neighborhood grass areas (such as if the neighborhood has a name & sign), and the like are allowed for all dogs to let loose, as long as there’s no “no pets” signs about. People’s yards? I try to avoid it as best as I can. Of course, they’re allowed to p*e in their own yards, and there are some exceptions, which I’ll talk about here, too.
2️⃣ This might be a hot take- fire hydrants should be *expected* to be p*ed on. We’re still hesitant if it’s in someone’s yard, but I don’t discourage it quite as much. It just sort of comes with the territory. We just try to avoid p*eing right on the front where it may be touched. Mail boxes, however? People pay for their mailboxes, and who wants to smell urine every afternoon when they check their mail?
3️⃣ Signs, lamp posts, telephone poles, and the like are all popular places for dogs to read, and leave, their p*e-mails. Again- if these (street lights or telephone poles) are in someone’s yard, we most likely avoid them, but I may not be as strict about not allowing it. People’s lights they’ve paid for, such as garden lights, their own lamp posts that were placed there by the city, etc. are not up for marking.
4️⃣ Outside of privacy fences, I usually allow! Barring that they’re hopefully not p*eing ON the fence, especially if it’s wooden. Chain link fences we try to avoid to avoid any accidental urine getting into the other side of the fence, but may allow it if there’s a decent bit of grass outside of the fence.
5️⃣ Again, public parks are fair game as long as pets are allowed! But, we’re not in the business of ruining anyone’s day at the park. Children’s playgrounds, benches, and picnic tables are avoided at all costs. There’s nothing worse than sticking your hand in “mystery liquid” and NOT being able to say “oh okay, it’s just water” 😅
