Just an other reason to buy this perfect boy… he is just so cute and the most tolerant animal ever.

Ok so social media tends to always show the glamorous side of things. But here is what reality looks like when you are in the horse business. I debated on whether sharing but I feel that it’s good to show the good and the bad…
Hawaii and I stranded on the side of the interstate with a blown tire.
We are safe, nothing we can’t fix, help is on way. And no this is not an old tire, and yes this truck got maintenance less than one month ago, I tried to do my due diligence to keep my equipment in good shape.
It’s just part of what you sign up when you do horses to a living. You deal with S… on daily basis.
And no, this is not an opportunity to come and trying to kidnap Hawaii, him and I are hanging out and so I have an eye on him👀.
Keep us in your thoughts…

I would like to apologize to all the horse shoppers, I didn’t realize how tough it was out there!

Yesterday was one of the biggest eye opening and humbling experience of my life.
So first, off I wanted to say to the hundreds of people who contacted me yesterday that EVERYBODY was so nice, professional and please do not think that this is a personal attack to any of you because it is not.

I have been publishing so many rants as a horse seller for years and for the first time I was on the other side of the equation and it is not easier (if anything it might actually be harder).
When I horse shop for my own business, I never really try to find something very particular. Horse could be 3, it could be 13, could be 15.3H or 18H, can be a mare, a gelding, a stallion, a gremlin, color is never a factor chestnut, grey or purple with polka dots, it’s all good. Horse can be a jumper, a hunter, a 3 ring horse, could pretty much be anything as along as it has an established change, a decent brain, a good vettings and can safely jump, and it’s priced fairly then technically I could add it to my shopping cart. Easy peasy! The vetting is usually my biggest hurdle as I have to think about resale.
Well yesterday I was shopping with a very very precise list, a healthy budget and a very specific order. You know, mail in bride type of situation. Ans let me tell you, I felt that I was on a dating app. It was like horsey Tinder with hundreds of options, lots and lots of nice horses but many of them were not exactly what my client had in mind.
I’m not going to lie, all that swiping left was exhausting, frustrating, and tedious. Again the horses we received were quality animals who had nothing wrong with them, so no blame on the sellers. But many felt short for some very small details linked to personal preferences.
And the more horses I received the more depressing and hopeless it felt.
Kind of like bikini shopping. You know you are going on a vacay on a fancy island and you have had the same black boring/basic swimsuit for 7 years, and you decide to treat yourself to a new flashy bikini for this upcoming trip. You are so excited to treat yourself. But then as you go to the store and start trying them, you realize the strap gives you a muffin top, the halter top digs into your neck, that one top flattens your b***s, the other one gives you a diaper butt, and now there are 12 mismatched tops and bottoms on the floor of the dressing room, and you decide “f… this”, I’m just going to wear a baggy T shirt and jean shorts by the pool and try to not blind people with my ghostly white legs from wearing breeches.
You will find me by the pool, just downing margaritas in my basic and old bikini!
So yesterday my inbox was full of beautiful horses yet none fit the exact bill and I realize how horse shoppers could get discouraged by the process.
To all of you in the trenches out there I hear ya’ and I feel ya’.
Horse shopping is a brutal experience for all parties involved!

ISO very fancy Hunter who could score a 90 in a derby and be competitive in the AOs down the road

Ok I’m putting feelers out on behalf of a good friend.
I’m looking for a horse who could eventually become a very nice competitive AO Hunter.
Now before you all flood my inbox with horses, read this.
You need to be realistic about the quality, if Pookie is currently winning the 2’6 4H fair in Iowa, he will probably not the quality we are looking for . Nothing against Pookie, but this horse needs to have the potential to win at Traverse city and in Florida.
While we will look at prospect, the horse needs to be ready to go in the ring in the next few weeks/months. So if you have only seen your horse do flying changes when he was zig/zaging hazardly to the jump, this doesn’t not qualify as “he has changes”.
The horse needs to have an exceptional quality jump. Like he might get bruises from banging his knees in his eyeballs type jump.
He doesn’t have to be idiot proof and a packer, meaning that he will go to a home where he will live a life of perfect accurate distances, light hands and steady legs.
That being said, don’t try to off load your dirty stoppers and horses with shady history. We have skills the FBI would only dream of 👀.

Budget is appropriate to buy a nice prospect. But if you are going to send a horse with a spotty show record and a massive quarter crack, do not even throw numbers like $300k or you will make it into the group chat and we will make fun of you and your delulu tendencies.
Age 5 to 11, gender and size are flexible.
While he will go to a very educated home, they don’t want to have to cowboy or wrestle anything. So feral and quirky horses are out of the runnings.
To sum it up, if you have a super quality 3’6/derby type, with a decent vetting (small findings will be overlooked… small is the operative word here, and no a huge suspensory tear is not a small finding), needs to be very pretty and modern (this is non negotiable, think little ears and long eye lashes Barbie horse), established changes, ready to course around 3ft yesterday. Send me options directly on what’s app at +15867702610. Would consider imports for the right horse.
I hope nobody reads this and doesn’t make it in the group chat!

Ok I have a little dilemma I want to run by you and get your opinion on. Bear with me, I promise you it’s horse related.
2 years ago I bought a brand new truck, loaded with option, the top of the top as far as duallies are concerned. It was quite expensive and I had to pay $105,000 but I needed it and I really wanted to buy something nice.
Since then I have driven it 80,000 miles, I did scrape it in a few places (oops… my bad) so it’s not quite as nice than when I got it.
I’m ready to list it, and here is what I was thinking. I would like to price it around $155,000.
Why $155,000? It’s simple, so like I said I paid $105,000 for it, then I put diesel, DEF (why do we have to use DEF now, fr), I replaced the tires (all 6 of them a few times), fuel filter, air filter, brake pads), insurance. Also the price of the trucks has gone up and in the show room similar vehicles are going for $125,000 nowadays. So yeah between the purchase price, the expenses and the inflation I think It’s worth 155,000.
Do you think I’m being reasonable and do you think I will find a buyer?
If I came up with this logic you would all tell me that I’m crazy. And that I should sell it for $75,000 and go on with my life. Right?

So why is it that every single person who buys a horse wants to make a profit on it when they have to sell it. And expect to get their expenses back and feel cheated when you tell them that they will actually have to sell their horse for less than what they originally paid for it?
You see if you imported a 1m30 horse and you are now campaigning in the 2’6 adults with questionable results because after all you are there to have fun and you are still learning so you chip here and there , then don’t expect to make a dime and don’t be sad if you get less than what you paid for your horse.
Unless your horse is dramatically better (you got your horse as a 5YO tripping over crossrails and it’s now winning the 3’3 greens) or if you bought your horse as a 1m40 horse in Europe and you put a decent 1m40 show record on him in the US) then you need to accept that it’s ok to not make money or to even get less than you paid for it in the first place.
Everybody treats horses like real estate, buy horse, keep horse, expect value to go up, sell for a profit.
But horses are closer to the car market, you buy said horse, you use it, you get value out of said use, you pay for maintenance you sell and upgrade, or you lease or whatnot and the value depreciate in the meantime.
Again I’m not saying that everybody should lose their shirt while owning horses, I’m just saying that the new expectation is that owning a horse is a profitable venture. IT IS NOT… so when it’s time to put a price on your horses, be realistic about what your horse is worth compared to horses with similar traits who recently sold. If your neighbor prices his 21YO trail riding QH for $85,000 that doesn’t mean that you should price your own 23YO QH for $75k. It just means that your neighbor is delulu and will keep his horse forever.
The difference between horses and cars is that you can’t park your horse in a garage. So month after month your expenses go up and you have a risk of injuries. When selling horses, try to be realistic and don’t chase the market.

Putting feelers out for a been there done that hunter for a 6 months lease

Ok first, this horse is not for sale and will never be for sale. This horse has been in our family for 9 years, he has been my 2 daughter’s emotional support, confidant, partner in crime through my 2 daughter’s middle school, high school, and he just graduated from his first bachelors degree.
Besides being an amazing listener for boy trouble, unfair teachers, annoying parents and so on, he has shown all the way to the 3’6 with top ribbons.
At this point he likes the 2’ to 3ft job better.
He is comfy and broke, broke, broke. He rides ba****ck. Can be put on the back burner with no pro rides for weeks and act like he had 3 months of pro rides from Tori Colvin.
He knows his job and doesn’t need to be drilled to do it perfectly.
He is a really good babysitter, has been used to pony and teach non horsey boyfriends to ride.
Perfect ground manners, travels, clips and does everything like a champ.
He hates trail riding in the woods, will trail ride all day long in open fields, just not a forest critter.
Hates grid work.
Other than that he has zero maintenance, is an easy keeper and a trainers dream.
He can go show or just be used to have fun in lessons.
He will be available between August and December.
He can stay here with me (in Port Orange, FL) or could go off site to perfect approved homes.
His USEF is very spotty because college trumps horse shows financially in our household and so campaigning him was never a priority.
Again his main job had been to keep my girls happy.
His older girl is starting her first big girl job out of state and doesn’t have the money or time yet to care for him.
And his younger girl has a very busy first semester of sophomore year in college and would not have enough time to commit to him.
So we have decided to share our unicorn with somebody for a little while as he is so special and one of a kind.
He is a super hunter/Eq type. (He hates the jumpers), 16H but rides very very large so fits even taller riders.
