Grange Fair Horse show recap. More photos to come next week. We are so proud of Charlie, Kynlee, and Paislee for working with their assigned horses through all the behind the scenes prep, helping Misty have a successful first great show experience, and displaying incredible horsemanship in the understanding of “it’s not about the ribbons, but helping your horse and you have a great learning experience.” But what a fun surprise that all three students got placings!
Charlie sixth place in Pole Bending, Keyhole, and 50 yd dash
Kynlee third place in costume
Paislee fourth place in costume

It’s almost grange fair time! We are so excited to be participating in more show opportunities this year. We have three horses and three students who will be showing! Stop by our stalls to say “howdy” and come to one or all of the shows listed to cheer on our hard working students this week!

If you’ll have to miss out, stay tuned for info about a student show that we host here at our barn that we hope to have more of our students participate in!

Always a pleasure to visit Personal Care at the village at Penn state! Sweetie and June got to visit the residents and our littlest helper, Elsie was along for the ride too!

Do we offer pony rides?
No. Do we offer riding? Yes. What is the difference? We provide a safe, fun experience with education on proper riding skills. Pony rides have become an “amusement attraction” in a way, throwing your child on a 350-1200lb animal, sometimes with no helmet and just telling them to hang on until the horse is done walking a loop. Sometimes this is done on hard surfaces for hours on end. Unbalanced riders lead to horses working harder and then combine that with hard surfaces and your horse will leave the event exhausted and hurting. The child will leave the event having had their two minute ride with no instruction on how to be a better rider so that the experience is enjoyable for the horse too.
While we never really advertise “pony rides,”this is because we never want to be associated with that experience. We provide instruction to every person who interacts with our horses. We fit riders with certified equestrian helmets before they step foot in a stirrup. Not because our horses aren’t safe, but because we want to teach safe riding and horses are large prey animals where accidents can occur. We provide tips for the entirety of the ride on how to balance well to make the ride safe and enjoyable for both horse and rider. Horses are large animals (even our minis weigh 350lb) that can accidentally hurt people. It is important to us that horses and humans are happy, safely working together. So, know when we talk “pony rides”, we are talking about a fun, semi educational, enjoyable experience for both horses and riders.
