The Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County has issued a Rabies Advisory in response to a single confirmed case of rabies in a raccoon that was captured in the area off Jarvis St. in Charlotte County on May 29 and sent for testing.

Rabies can affect both people and animals. While this is a single confirmed case, residents should be aware that rabies may be present in the local wild animal population.

If your pet is bitten by an animal, contact your veterinarian immediately and Charlotte County Animal Control at 941-833-5690.
