Law for Paws and Friends Law for Paws-Established in December 2015 by employees of the Port Barre Police Dept. in south Louisiana. Please check out our Amazon wish list.

We welcome everyone to join us in giving the dogs in our care a chance of better life by adoption & rescue. There is very little help for animals here. We do not have Animal Control in our town, police officers & other staff pick up stray dogs only. We are not an open intake facility, nor can we house or pick up cats. UPDATE ON SMOKEY:

He is so beyond pitiful.
Smokey's tail has to be amuputated.
Shockingly he is heart worm negative, but cant be vaccinated at this time.
He will be neutered while he is under.
Full of infection.... Has a heart murmur.
Eyes and skin are infected.Smokey is a very young dog and ro have lived this kind of hell is just so wrong.
He is starved ......goes on and on. They believe he suffered some type of trauma..unsure what.

He will need a foster home to recover he can not be in this heat.

And they keep coming...poor darling another dog in horrible condition.

Smokey will be headed to LVCC in Lafayette thanks to Mardi Paws. What would we do without them. Please consuder donating to them to offset the cost of this darling and all the others they help

Location: Port Barre/ Pineville La. In boarding
Locked in a building for 3 weeks with no electricity in the sweltering heat, trapped in kennels with their own waste.
Bower is one of 3 dogs seized from a cruelty case.
The subject responsible was arrested.
He is 13.8 lbs of love, sweetness and adores everyone. He grew up with children.
Bower is hw negative and micro negative
up to date on shots
He will need to be neutered.
He needs a calm environment.

RESCUE REQUEST:
This beautiful boy we have named Howie, has had one hard time in life from the looks of him. he is very skeletal, the photos do not do his condition justice. He is terrified, cowers and attaches to the floor like a pan cake. If only animals could talk!!!
Possibly a black-mouth cur/Anatolian Shepard mix.
Howie will need vet care, he has an appointment on Tuesday and our wonderful volunteers are giving him some much needed TLC and small portions of food.
Howie seems to have old puncture marks we can't say for sure....but what we do know is we will get him on the road to recovery and find him the best happily ever after possible. He would love a foster when he has his vet visit. To sponsor Howie please call Dr. Fontenot's office and donate any amount you like. It is usually $150.00 ish for a full visit, vaccines, rabies, hw test and f***l. Please reach out with any interest. As always thank you for your continuous support.

We are reaching out for help for our vet bill at Dr Fontenot's 337 948 8959 Account is under Law for Paws our cruelty case darlings Zena, Bandit and Bower. Bandit is in the worse shape of all, Zena running a close second. Any overages will be used on Zena and Bandit's next check up.
Bandit will probably need specialized care down the road. He walks to the side, his paw rest down oddly and his skin is horiffic.
The sight of them just breaks your heart.
We will do whatever we can to help them.
Thank you LaDonna Hawthorne /Critter Express for transporting our babies and taking them in to nurse them back to health.
Zena and Bandit are on lots of medication, and will get medicated baths.

Note: Someone has been arrested for their mistreatment.

Meet Ryker — an 8-year-old sweetheart with a HUGE personality and an even bigger heart. At 72 pounds, this boy is 72 pounds of pure love. 🐾❤️

Ryker has completed his final fast-kill injections for heartworms, and he is doing amazing so far! His heartworm treatment has taken a toll, though, and sadly, he does have lasting heart damage. He will also be neutered in about a month.

But none of that has changed the most important thing about Ryker:

He absolutely LOVES people.

Give this boy a scratch, a kind word, or even just a moment of your time, and he lights up. Ryker has a way of making you feel like you're the most important person in the world. ❤️

Despite everything he's been through, he still radiates joy.

He's goofy.
He's affectionate.
He's loyal.
He's loving.
And he has so much love left to give.

🏡 WHAT RYKER NEEDS
Ryker would thrive as an only dog. There has been an incident with another dog, so he needs a home where he can be the center of attention and kept safely separated from other dogs.

🐾 Best as an only dog
🐱 Not a fan of cats
👧 Loves kids -older kids would be best, he is a big dog
❤️ Absolutely adores people
🏥 Needs a rescue able to manage his ongoing medical needs

What Ryker needs most is someone who will see beyond his medical history.

Someone who will keep him safe.
Someone who will make sure he gets the care he needs.
Someone who will give him the love and devotion he's been missing.

Because Ryker is ready to give it all back — tenfold.

He has already been through so much, and somehow, he still believes people are wonderful.

Now he needs someone to prove him right.

IMMEDIATE RESCUE NEEDED
📍Currently boarding in Pineville, Louisiana

❤️🐾 IVY HAS BEEN WAITING FOR OVER A YEAR. PLEASE HELP HER FIND HOME. 🐾❤️

Ivy entered boarding on October 14, 2024.

She's still there.

For more than a year, her world has been a kennel. She's watched other dogs leave while she stays behind, quietly hoping that someone will finally see her.

But Ivy isn't the dog who demands attention.

She's gentle.
She's shy.
She's incredibly loving.

When you reach out to pet her, she gently closes her eyes — as if she's memorizing what love feels like.

She loves peaceful car rides and forms deep bonds with her people. She's done well with older children who understand and respect her.

🏡 IVY NEEDS:
• A calm, patient home
• Older children
• SLOW introductions, possibly dog selective
• Someone willing to give her time to feel safe

🩺 MEDICAL:
✅ Spayed
✅ Fully vaccinated
❤️ Heartworm positive — 🚨 Ivy had her first fast kill injection on August 17, 2026. 🚨 next two are the middle of September.
She did very well.

Ivy was found alone in a McDonald's parking lot in Opelousas. We don't know how she got there or what happened before that day.

Someone tried to help her, but with multiple dogs in the home, Ivy became overwhelmed. One scuffle changed everything.

And since then, she's been waiting.

Waiting for someone to look past the kennel.

Waiting for someone to understand that the quiet dog in the corner may have the biggest heart.

Waiting for someone to say:

“I choose you, Ivy.”

💔 She doesn't understand why she's still waiting.

She doesn't know that somewhere out there, there could be a soft bed, a peaceful home, and a person who will give her the patience and love she deserves.

GUT WRENCHING! THESE POOR LITTLES WERE LOCKED IN A BUILDING WITH NO POWER, ROASTING WITH NO AC!!! CAGED IN THEIR OWN WASTE FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS.........PERIODICALLY SEEN ABOUT. IMAGINE THE HORROR OF THAT.
