Law for Paws and Friends Law for Paws-Established in December 2015 by employees of the Port Barre Police Dept. in south Louisiana. Please check out our Amazon wish list.

We welcome everyone to join us in giving the dogs in our care a chance of better life by adoption & rescue. There is very little help for animals here. We do not have Animal Control in our town, police officers & other staff pick up stray dogs only. We are not an open intake facility, nor can we house or pick up cats. Law for Paws thanks you for checking out our page, and wanting to help us, help the dogs of Port Barre, La.

UPDATE: STILL WAITING

❤️🐾 FOSTER NEEDED FOR JOURNEY! HE DESERVES A FRESH START! 🐾❤️
🐾 Here's Journey's update: ❤️ 46 pounds of handsome! ❤️ Heartworm negative! 💔 He appears to have had an embedded collar at some point recently. 🩺 He has a fungal skin condition and possibly ringworm. 🙏 He's currently receiving veterinary care at Copper Crown and will be there until later this afternoon.
A HUGE thank-you to our wonderful supporter, Mardi Paws, for helping cover his veterinary care! They have helped us tremendously with several of our cruelty cases, and we are forever grateful for their support. ❤️
We'll be honest — Journey is a bit of a hot mess express right now! 🚂😂 But underneath it all is a dog who deserves a chance to heal, feel safe, and finally experience the love he's been missing.
🚨 JOURNEY NEEDS A FOSTER HOME! 🚨
We are completely full, and Journey needs a safe place where he can receive the care, patience, and love he deserves while he recovers.
Could you open your heart and home to this sweet boy? Even fostering him through his recovery could change his life forever.
Please remember that his possible ringworm may be contagious, so his foster will need to follow veterinary guidance about isolation, hygiene, and contact with other pets.
If you can foster Journey, please reach out! If you can't foster, please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! His person could be just one share away. 🙏❤️
Let's show Journey that his past does not define his future. He deserves a beautiful new beginning.

💔🐶 HOWIE NEEDS A FOSTER! PLEASE DON'T LET HIM FIGHT THIS BATTLE WITHOUT A HOME. ❤️😭
📍 Port Barre, Louisiana 📅 Intake: 9/2/26 🐾 50 pounds of pure sweetness!
Look at the difference a little love and care has made! ❤️ The first photo is Howie on intake, and the second is him recently.
But this sweet boy still needs something so many of us take for granted: A SAFE PLACE TO CALL HOME. 💔
Howie is heartworm positive and microfilaria positive. He's started doxycycline treatment and is on heartworm prevention, but he needs a foster to help him through his journey to recovery.
🙏 Imagine how comforting it would be for him to have a soft bed, a kind human, and a safe place to rest while he heals.
HE DOESN'T NEED YOU TO BE HIS FOREVER. HE JUST NEEDS SOMEONE WILLING TO HELP HIM GET THERE. 🏡❤️
🚨 HOWIE NEEDS A FOSTER! 🚨
Please SHARE, TAG RESCUES, and spread his story. You could be the reason this precious boy finally gets his chance. 🐾
50 pounds of love deserves a place to heal, a chance to thrive, and a happy ending. WHO CAN HELP HOWIE? ❤️😭

INTAKE 10/15/25 OVER A YEAR WAITING
🚨❤️ RESCUE ONLY — RYKER NEEDS A HERO ❤️🚨
Pineville, LA. Boarding
Meet Ryker — an 8-year-old sweetheart with a HUGE personality and an even bigger heart. At 72 pounds, this boy is 72 pounds of pure love. 🐾❤️
Ryker has completed his final fast-kill injections for heartworms, and he is doing amazing so far! His heartworm treatment has taken a toll, though, and sadly, he does have lasting heart damage. He will also be neutered soon.
Also he will need medication for the rest of his life, costing about $30.00 a month
But none of that has changed the most important thing about Ryker:
He absolutely LOVES people.
Give this boy a scratch, a kind word, or even just a moment of your time, and he lights up. Ryker has a way of making you feel like you're the most important person in the world. ❤️
Despite everything he's been through, he still radiates joy.
He's goofy.
He's affectionate.
He's loyal.
He's loving.
And he has so much love left to give.
🏡 WHAT RYKER NEEDS
Ryker would thrive as an only dog. There has been an incident with another dog, so he needs a home where he can be the center of attention and kept safely separated from other dogs.
🐾 Best as an only dog
🐱 Not a fan of cats
👧 Loves kids -older kids would be best, he is a big dog
❤️ Absolutely adores people
🏥 Needs a rescue able to manage his ongoing medical needs
What Ryker needs most is someone who will see beyond his medical history.
Someone who will keep him safe.
Someone who will make sure he gets the care he needs.
Someone who will give him the love and devotion he's been missing.
Because Ryker is ready to give it all back — tenfold.
He has already been through so much, and somehow, he still believes people are wonderful.
Now he needs someone to prove him right.
🚨 RYKER IS RESCUE ONLY. 🚨
Please share, tag rescues, tag rescue coordinators, and spread Ryker's story.
His forever person may be out there right now — they just need to see him. ❤️🐾
72 pounds of love shouldn't have to wait for a hero

🚨 RESCUE ONLY — MEET ZENA 🚨 CRUELTY SURVIVOR
ISO: A EXPEREINCED RESCUE: FOR ZENA THE CHIHUAHUA
This girl here is mouthy, first sign of anyone, then a few days later she melts like butter. Zena is doing fantastic with Ladonna, but it was not all rainbow and unicorns at first...typical Chi behavior.

📍 Location: Pineville, LA
❤️ From Law for Paws & Friends / Port Barre, LA
🙏 Ladonna Hawthorne is doing an amazing job nursing this little survivor back to health.
Meet Zena — 11 pounds of pure sass and strength! ❤️🐾
This little girl is looking and feeling SO much better, but the story she carries with her is absolutely heartbreaking.
🩺 Heartworm Negative
💉 Up to date on vaccinations
✂️ We were told she is spayed
Zena was one of three dogs abandoned and left locked inside a building with NO POWER, NO AC, and temperatures soaring. They were reportedly trapped there for at least three weeks, caged in their own waste, with only periodic sightings of anyone checking on them.
Imagine the fear.
The heat.
The confusion.
The suffering. 💔
These dogs once had a home. They had a family. They had children to play with. They knew what it meant to belong.
And then, somehow, all of that was taken away.
Their lives may never be the same again — but their stories do NOT have to end here. ❤️
Zena is RESCUE ONLY and deserves so much more than what she has known. She deserves a safe place to heal, a soft bed, a loving hand, and someone who will show her that people can be kind.
She deserves to feel secure.
She deserves to be cherished.
She deserves to be someone's little girl again. 🏡❤️
🚨 ZENA NEEDS A RESCUE! 🚨
Please SHARE ZENA. 🙏🐾
Let's help this sassy little survivor find the rescue, safety, love, and future she deserves.
Her past was heartbreaking. Let's make sure her future is beautiful.

Thank you to the BISSELL Pet Foundation Cathy Bissell we are so greateful for all the Hope, Love and funding for Fix the Future and so much much you do for us and all the homeless babies everywhere. Our volunteers got to meet you and it was their first time to the airport. What a great experience!! Also our amazing volunteers who made the trip to the airport, fostered our boy and took him to vet visits that led up to today. Thank you all so much. Best of forever to our Nubs!
