It’s that time of year again!

The Dungeness Crab Festival is coming up, which means it’s time for one of our favorite RISE traditions: taking over the Crab Central Bar!

On October 10th, we’re bringing the RISE crew together for a day of cold drinks, good people, great festival vibes, and a whole lot of fun — all while raising money to help the dogs.

We need volunteers to join us behind the bar and help make Crab Central the place to be! You don’t have to be a bartender. You just need to be willing to work hard, have a good time, and be ready to jump into the chaos with us.

Come spend the day with your RISE family, soak up the festival atmosphere, and help us turn drinks into dollars for rescue dogs.

This. This is why vaccines are so important.

These two dogs recently joined our program. A mama and her puppy.

We recently had them seen by the vet for some worrisome eye issues, and based on their history and what we’re seeing, we suspect mama had distemper while she was pregnant.

Distemper is a highly contagious viral disease that can cause serious illness in dogs, including respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological problems. And the really frustrating part? It’s completely preventable with vaccination.

Mama survived the illness but lost vision in one eye. Because she was sick during pregnancy, her puppy was born with an eye deformity and is now totally blind.

Think about that for a second. This puppy was affected by a disease before she was even born.

Neither of these dogs did anything wrong. But this is one of the heartbreaking consequences of a disease that we can prevent with a simple, effective vaccine.

Vaccinating your dogs protects them — and helps protect the dogs they come into contact with, too.

Please don’t wait until it’s too late. Talk to your veterinarian, make sure your dogs are up to date on their vaccines, and help prevent another puppy from suffering the consequences of a preventable disease. One simple vaccine can protect a life before it even begins.

Our dogs had so much fun at the pottery studio the other day hanging out with the humans while they made pet bowls out of clay!

A big thank you to Olympic Coast Creative for hosting us and giving our pups such a fun afternoon out. And thank you to Ariel Zimman for teaching such an awesome class and making it so much fun for everyone.

And of course, thank you to everyone who came out to play with clay, spend some time with our dogs, and support the work we are doing at RISE. We had such a great time, and we’re so grateful for all of you who make these special days possible!

*** Side note: we're seriously scratching our heads over here wondering why Carl and Lars, the two most perfect boys who loved hanging at the pottery studio haven't been adopted yet. If you want a go anywhere, do anything dog, come sn**ch one up. They are SO both SO great.

With all the excitement from not one, but TWO big events yesterday (photos from pottery class with the pups coming soon!), we completely missed sharing some pretty big...or little...news.

We had a little dog explosion.

Thanks to the help of our amazing fosters who stepped up INSTANTLY and to our awesome volunteers who are helping us manage MANY vet appointments, we were able to say yes to not one, not two, but NINE little dogs who needed a safe place to land.

(And if you saw our director at Pet Lover’s Day and thought she looked a *little* tired...there’s a reason. She was at the facility in the middle of the night right before event day, getting four of the nine settled in after they were just dropped off.)

So, yeah. We’ve got a busy week ahead.

These little ones have a LOT of vet appointments coming up, and some of them really need them. We’re incredibly grateful to the fosters and volunteers who are already helping us make it all happen, but we could use a little more help.

Here’s what we need:

1. Doggie Taxi Service
Help us get these little guys to and from their scheduled vet appointments. There are only a couple more we need help with. You just need to drop them off and/or pick them up. Easy!

2. Small dog blankets and beds
We need them. Lots of them. If you have small dog beds or cozy blankets you’re no longer using, we’d love to put them to work.

3. Fosters
Our fosters stepped up in a big way. And while several of these pups have to stay behind at RISE, we have one remaining dog who is eligible for foster. Getting her into a quiet home would be the best thing for her so she can learn what home life is all about.

4. Little dog socializers
Patience required! These kiddos are not going to walk up and immediately decide you’re their new best friend. Some are nervous and need people who are willing to take things slowly and let them come around at their own pace. But sitting with them for an hour here and there will help them more than you know.

Nine little dogs is a lot of little dogs, but with our village behind us, these kiddos have the most amazing futures ahead.

Wow! What a day!

A huge thank you to Pet Emergency Group and KSQM for hosting Pet Lover’s Day and bringing so many animal lovers together. We had a total blast!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the RISE booth to say hello. We loved seeing all the pets and their people, catching up with friends, and connecting with so many fellow dog lovers.

And thank you to our incredible staff and volunteers who showed up, worked hard, and helped make the day so much fun. We truly couldn’t do it without you!

One of the very best parts of the day was getting to reunite with a whole bunch of RISE alumni. There is nothing better than seeing dogs who have come through our doors out there living their best lives with their people. It never gets old.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made Pet Lover’s Day such a great day. We’re already looking forward to the next one!
