Second Chances Animal Rescue of Pontotoc is dedicated to saving the homeless pets of Pontotoc County Mississippi and the surrounding area. All donations go towards saving lives of the helpless animals of Pontotoc County and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable, welcoming environment for animals until adoption, promote spay and neuter, and educate the community on anima

l wellness. Second Chances operates out of private foster homes in Pontotoc, MS. Our fosters are very flexible in setting up appointments for you to meet your future forever friend. It’s that time again!! Time for my monthly/bimonthly/weekly financially induced crash out. Our only two adoptions over the last 10 weeks both had waived adoption fees…

We have $1.87 and need so many things 🥺😭🫠.

Ivermectin ($90 for large bottle), dewormer ($180 for large bottle), carprofen ($45 for one month supply), lasix, vetmedin, enalapril for 5 heart failure dogs ($215 for one month supply), box of 25 cat vaccines ($125), box of dog vaccines ($150), nexgard for 170 dogs for the summer ($$$😭), Reynolds REALLY needs a few more drag bags and diapers ($30-$60) and that’s just off the top of my head. I’m sure there are more things I’m forgetting or doing without.

And we only received 4 bags of food in the mail last week 😞.

Maybe it’s time to call it. I’m sick of treading water and begging to get by. It isn’t fair to me or the dogs or any of my followers to continue like this. Idk. I just don’t know.

If you can help us make it through another week, I appreciate it more than words can say. Anything needed that doesn’t require a vet prescription to order has been added to our Amazon list 🥲.

These two are feeling some better. Gus isn’t healing as quickly but she’ll catch up. She reminds me so much of Cosmo - one of the ones who got away 🥲.

There are so many I once wished I could have kept, but now I’m just thankful we were actually having adoptions at the time and they aren’t still stuck with me 🥺😞😭.

It’s a struggle caring for the ones we have. But what do you do?

Don’t even get a dog if you’re just going to let her have puppies that you refuse to take responsibility for 🫠🫠🫠.

Before I say anything else, I want to say he is OKAY. But I have been somewhat dreading making this post. We’re still having those postop issues and are at a loss regarding what to do.

Not knowing what’s wrong is generally worse than just getting the bad news. It is to me, anyway. So here we go.

After undergoing bilateral hind leg amputations, Reynolds has adapted incredibly well overall. But now has an ongoing medical complication related to his anatomy and mobility changes.

At this time, he is unable to consistently keep his p***s retracted, which leaves the tissue exposed and vulnerable to irritation, injury, and infection. We have consulted with rehabilitation specialists and discussed possible corrective surgical options, but were advised that similar procedures can sometimes worsen the problem rather than resolve it.

For now, our priority is keeping him comfortable, protected, and infection-free while we continue exploring the safest long-term solution. He is currently wearing male wraps/diapers to help protect the area and prevent further complications.

As always, we appreciate everyone who continues to support and love this sweet boy while we navigate the challenges that come with his unique needs.
