Yesterday a 2 yr old kitty came in to see us after falling from a tree and onto a ladder. He has a head injury and a broken front leg.

One of our other clients who was here with their pooch donated some money to our compassion fund to help this kitty and his family. Thank you so much to the Pasch family for loving this kitty as much as their own pooch by helping to get the care he needs !

Never crush your pet's medication without approval from your veterinarian. Here's why:

Risks:
-Designed to survive stomach acid; crushing lets acid destroy the drug before it works.

-Loss of Enteric Coating: Some pills are built to bypass stomach acid and dissolve in the intestines. Crushing destroys this shield, rendering the drug useless or irritating to the gut.

-Overdose from Extended Release: Timed-release pills release medicine slowly; crushing them dumps the full dose into the body at once.

-Inaccurate Dosing: Powdering a small tablet can result in lost medicine left behind on the grinding surface.

-Taste: Exposed medication often tastes awful, causing pets to reject their food and miss vital doses.

Try this instead:

-Use pill-masking treats such as pill pockets, soft cheeses, or peanut butter (xylitol-free) work well without altering the drug.

-Request compounded alternatives: such as flavored liquids, chewable treats, or transdermal skin gels.

Ask your vet: Always confirm if a specific tablet is safe to crush.

Let’s talk about something that accidentally happens as a consequence during training.

Injuries and infections caused by improper use of prong and shock collars.

*These are not meant to stay on all the time*

Our pets may not respond to training the way we would like if they are in pain.

Some of the reasons are if the collar is causing pain by improper use, or pain because the collar is not fitted properly, or pain because the skin is injured by the prongs themselves or a skin infection from moisture and lack of air circulation under the fur.

This is an unfortunate but preventable trip to the Veterinarian for your dog.

We hope this post will help to bring awareness as the first step to prevention.

Last night some folks brought in their pup for weakness and inability to walk or stand.

They had been out camping 🏕️

A fully engorged tick was found and removed.

We recommend flea and tick medication to prevent this scenario.

Our patient should make a full recovery 🐾
