Meet Star! She was being fostered, and when the foster period was up, the shelter (not us!) would not take her back. ๐Ÿ˜ฟ Star is about a year old and has been spayed. She absolutely loves people but should be an only cat as she does not get along with other cats. Shes also a little bit of a chatterbox when she wants attention ! ๐Ÿ˜บThis girl deserves a fresh start!

(Trying to get better pics of her!)

Itโ€™s not just plants and food that can get your cat into trouble. ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ  Everyday things like string, batteries, medications, cords, plastic bags, and small toys can be risky when a curious cat gets too close.

Part 4 of 4. Which household hazard do you think cat owners overlook the most?

Fall color, decoded by species, so you can identify what you're looking at from a car window.

THE YELLOW/GOLD GROUP (carotenoids revealed as chlorophyll breaks down): Hickory โ€” clear, luminous gold. Birch โ€” bright yellow. Tulip poplar โ€” golden yellow. Aspen โ€” the famous gold of western mountains. Ash โ€” yellow, sometimes with purple tones. Beech โ€” golden bronze, and it HOLDS its dead leaves through winter (marcescence).

THE RED/PURPLE GROUP (anthocyanins actively produced in autumn): Red maple โ€” brilliant scarlet, often the earliest strong red. Sugar maple โ€” orange to orange-red, the classic New England color. Black tupelo / blackgum โ€” arguably the deepest, most intense red of any eastern tree, and often the FIRST to turn. Sourwood โ€” crimson. Sweetgum โ€” a single tree can show yellow, orange, red, and deep purple simultaneously. Dogwood โ€” deep maroon-red. Sassafras โ€” orange, scarlet, and yellow on one tree; also has three different leaf shapes on one tree.

THE RUSSET GROUP: Oaks โ€” russet, bronze, deep burgundy, and brown. Oaks turn LATE and hold color longest. Many young oaks and beeches retain leaves all winter.

THE UNDERAPPRECIATED ONES: Virginia creeper โ€” brilliant red, climbing. Staghorn sumac โ€” scarlet. Blueberry โ€” crimson. Witch hazel โ€” clear yellow, and it flowers at the same time.

WHY SOME YEARS ARE BETTER: Warm sunny days plus cool (not freezing) nights maximize anthocyanin production. Drought, early hard freezes, and warm cloudy autumns dull the display.

Plant a black tupelo. Nothing else comes close.

Our sweet silly sisters, weโ€™d love to keep them together. Rikki is a bit more curious, but both are spayed and cat friendly. ๐Ÿ˜บ

This may seem convenient but it's not a good idea.

MSN: Both wet and dry food are quality options for feeding your cat, says Dr. Bruce Kornreich, a board-certified veterinary cardiologist and director of the Cornell Feline Health Center at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. However, there may be cases where wet food is recommended in addition to, or in place of, dry food. Kornreich says wet food benefits cats who need more water, particularly older cats with kidney disease.
