Rarely do I air my disgust with people shopping for horses. I try to make everything crystal clear in my ads but of course it always becomes clear people don’t know how to read. This post is more of a ‘what would you do if you were in my shoes’ post. I’ll try to make it as brief as possible but it is a ridiculous situation and has pretty much stopped me from publicly advertising even though I have a BUNCH I want to sell, basically a partial herd dispersal.
Person contacts me about 2 horses end of July and says she wants them both. Ok, cool…. But I kind of blow her off because I get that all the time, waste my time sending 4,000 pictures, etc, you know the drill…. After about the third time I think maybe she’s serious so I email her a contract to which she fills out and emails back same night with a non refundable 25% deposit. My contract states exactly that and that a shipper needs to be booked within 30 days. I go ahead and get coggins done. Over the next few weeks I don’t hear from her. I text, email, FB messenger…. Replies days later or even a week. I ask multiple times if she’s found a shipper or if she needs help finding a reputable shipper - “No, it’s not a problem”…. I’m in Montana, she’s on the East coast…. A few days after the contract is up, she contacts me from a different number and then a different number within a week. I make the statement that I’m concerned I’m getting scammed since she’s now changed her number a couple times within a week and still no shipper booked. She flies off the handle, blows up my phone and calls…. She’s screaming and yelling, ranting and raving about how I’ve insulted her and she’s never been treated this way and on and on and on. I can’t get a word in edgewise but finally sick of the profanities and told her she can speak to me like an adult or I’m done with the conversation. I end up hanging up. I send her deposit back via Venmo, against my contract and better judgment, but do not want anything to do with this very unstable person. She continues to call leaving nasty messages and probably 50 texts and private messages, which I have saved. I text her and simply said your deposit is returned, we are outside the agreed dates on the contract, do not contact me again. Messages continue for days then finally stop. I blocked her on all socials that I could find her on, blocked her on my phone, etc. Mid September I get a VM from a different number from her, apologizing saying she was off her meds, I didn’t deserve that, blah blah blah blah… I don’t respond, block that number. Then texts from another number, blocked. Then last night, a barrage of texts begging me to call and discuss like adults, apologizing again, blah blah, I don’t respond as it’s the middle of the night so she then apparently gets angry again and starts in on nasty messages. Going from being in love with these horses to they are trash horses to she doesn’t want to get a lawyer involved. Blocked the number and here I am just wanting this psycho to leave me alone. If you made it this far….. what would you do???? I did not respond and have not responded since I returned her deposit.
