What Are Lace Ears?
Lace ears are ears that have white hairs along the edges or mixed throughout the ear leather, creating a delicate 'laced' appearance. They are considered a normal coat-color variation in Basset Hounds and fall within the AKC standard.

What Causes Lace Ears?
Current evidence suggests lace ears are influenced by the genes that control white spotting, especially the MITF (S-locus) gene, along with other modifying genes. There is currently no single identified 'lace ear gene.' The exact inheritance pattern has not been fully established.
