Here we are on the eve of Summer, the longest day of the year. May your gardens be full and rewarding this season, we hope they teach you the wonderful ways of rooting down and accepting with grace the gifts that come with the Sun ☀️

Our own little container garden is a Joy! We’ve got plenty of beautiful plants left to fill out your beds and containers!

And our farm is being rebuilt by some very generous people gifting a little bit of time and effort: Look at these beautiful new beds, the first two constructed at the new Bowman Farm! You see a paper w**d barrier that will decompose, a layer of Rake-a-Difference leaf and composted Jim Dandy brewers grain mixed with our home grown compost, a layer of aged organic cow manure all toped with our own matured top soil. We’re gonna grow some Tomato’s! (as soon as we can 🙂)

This is gorgeous Pocatello weather! Still, there is time to foster that gardening seed deep down inside you. Truly, even one patio pot with one Cherry Tomato Plant or one Lavender Plant can unfetter a childish joy in you. We realize that in this season of Bowman Farm reconstruction we will be at the Farmer’s Market each week with much less produce to offer but much more time to offer. We encourage all of you to bring your gardening questions and photos to market, our farm rebuild season can naturally be one of dialogue with you on how best to raise healthy plants, please take us up on this!

Come get Garlic Scapes this week, the first taste of the Garlic feast to come.

In the absence of our produce abundance, we will lean into the sales of our Farm Fire chili flakes—a unique blend of 15 peppers we grew, dried, and processed—and our organic Face Cream made with our own calendula oil! Come ask us about these products. Careful, most who try them are compelled to return for more!

We’ve made it to “fair weather” planting season! The risk of freeze is much lower now (though still possible). Now it’s time to get plants in before it gets too hot and dry (also a great stress on young transplants). The nursery is still very well stocked because last weekend’s cold and rain kept some gardeners shy and inside…come on out this weekend! Throw a plant in a pot if that’s all you got…we’re starting a little family container garden since we haven’t had the time to get a proper garden going.

The Bowman Farm rebuild is truckin’ along. We’re getting high tunnel ground prepped thanks to a beautifully generous clean up crew, our super kind friend Darryn on his skid loader, and Nature Ridge Organic Dairy donating a few tons of composted manure…we just had to figure out how to haul it!

Wow! Certainly some lovely gardening weather is upon us showing full warm sun, intermittent clouds and gentle rain coming and going. We’ll bring lots of lovely plants in the morning. They’re ready to take advantage of a couple cooler cloudy days, perfect weather in which to plant, giving roots a chance to establish before strong sun arrives! We hope you’ll choose to be a gardener this season, even if the only space you have is a few large pots out on the edge of the porch. 🪴Growing, tending to, watching the ebb and flow of vitality in real life (instead of on a screen)…this is the kind of thing that speaks to us at a core level. Get in touch with your soul 😉…at the Farmer’s Market…in the morning friends.

The nursery is poppin’! And now is the time to start your garden! 🪴
This Memorial Weekend we are remembering farms of our past…a few years ago we hustled so hard for the picture of a beautiful thriving garden that the backs and spirits were truly broken, this year we serve one master though he has not yet been a year on the earth. He is far wiser a leader than our previous ambitions to supply all and present all in excellent beauty. Under his leadership this year, the rocking chair is ahead of the plow, the tiny bites of food in mouth or on the floor precede the w**ds, the bell-like yells of joy are honored before the blossoms fruit. We are parents before we are farmers before we are artists of the landscape. Thank you to the child! And to you, those who watch and wait, the vegetables will arrive at his discretion.

This week we’re bringing your Cucumber, Squash and Melon Plants for the first time! We’re tending to a beautiful crew of Tomato Plants, Peppers, Herbs, Eggplant and More. The moon is new, now may be a really great time to collect your garden plants, harden them off and then anticipate the best planting moment. It’s never truly “safe” to put the garden in here in the Rocky Mountains where temperatures rise and fall like the speculations on the price of oil, but the season is relatively short so practiced gardeners are always looking for a chance to get things planted as early as possible! Another beautiful Spring morning awaits us tomorrow, see you then ☀️

We moved our Greenhouse this Spring, but have yet to reconstruct our field High Tunnels, and more importantly, have not yet rebuilt worthy soil inside those tunnels…in layman’s terms, the Heirloom Tomatoes are not yet planted and will be over a month behind schedule! Last year we asked you all to plant gardens as our production diminished due to the arrival of our child…this year it’s likely even more important that you get a garden planted while we reconstruct this farm. We know it’s a big ask from busy people, we’re struggling to get even a few things planted for our home…but we’ll say, if anything is worth the struggle, gardening is. Garden’s are teachers in the purest sense. We are bringing as many plants as we can to market, we’ll see you tomorrow morning :)

Some of you have raised infant children, so you understand…and some of you have relocated an entire decade’s worth of farm infrastructure in a single season, so ya’ll understand…and then there are those who try to do both at once…are there really those who try to do both at once? Needless to say, you will witness Bowman Farm hobbling along through this season. Yet surprise of all surprises, we are coming to market with a well stocked nursery and that is due partly to some regular stubborn work ethic, but mostly due to the profound generosity of a few who have donated their time to help us out. Thank you Aaron Stratton for gifting us your time and your crew to pour a foundation for our greenhouse, thanks to Brian Miesch for excavating and loaning a dump trailer, thanks to Shane Booth for helping piece the structure back together and thank you Becky, and Kaye, and Elmer, and Cindy, and Joy, and Cheli, and Story, and Terry, and Diana, and Cap, and Iris, and Annette, and Jill, and Joe, and Dana for giving us your labor to get all these garden plants off to a great start! We’re coming to market, we’ll be there on Saturday, and we’ll keep trying our best to show up with the products of our expertise. So if you’ve ever wanted to get a taste of the small market farm world, this is a perfect season to offer a hand or an arm or a back to the cause of rebuilding Bowman Farm in the Mink Creek Valley…henceforth she will never move again! (DM us if you long to get involved).
