It’s our 5 Year Anniversary! 🎂 🎉

~ 5 years ago, I was on a plane from San Francisco to Boston. I was flying home after recently quitting my job and moving back in with my parents. The anxiety of being unemployed was kicking in after I’d just taken a month to clear my head visiting various different states. I had been deeply unhappy in my work in accounting, and corporate life wasn’t for me. The thought occurred to me: I could try pet sitting and see where it goes. I branded myself and created my social media presence on the plane. Within a week, I had my first few clients. I am eternally grateful to those who took a chance on a brand new pet sitter without references. Evidently I did an okay job- because here I stand 5 years later, still getting calls, messages, and requests. What a 5 years it has been. I’ve worked with nearly every type of animal you could imagine, from cats and dogs (of course) to pigs, chickens, snakes and spiders. I continue to meet new families and have the privilege of being welcomed and trusted into their homes- something I never take for granted. These last 5 years have been absolutely life changing and I say that with full conviction and zero hyperbole. Once again I say- what a 5 years it has been!

I actually don’t like the term “pet sitter” because what I do (and others who fulfill this role) is far beyond just sitting for pets. It’s being in tune with their needs. It’s sleepless nights with dogs struggling with separation anxiety. It’s walks in the freezing cold. It’s taking them to medical appointments or the emergency vet. It’s sending updates and photos to the owners. It’s showing up when I’m sick or unwell because these animals depend on me when there’s nobody else. It’s getting attached and it’s a LOT of loss because unfortunately our furry family members don’t live long enough.

This isn’t a job, it’s literally my life.

What a 5 years it has been ❤️

The hardest part of the job nobody talks about: all of the loss. We can all agree that our pets don’t live as long as they deserve. If I could have it my way, all pets would live forever. This week, I received another devastating update from a client: the sweet boy I had cared for six days prior passed away. The thing is- I knew when I left him last weekend, I wasn’t going to see him again. It was a horrible goodbye. I’ve had “goodbye” visits with many dogs I’ve loved. Laid on the floor with them, crying, stroking their head and telling them “you’re such a good boy”, “you’re such a good girl”. You love these animals as your own. As a caregiver, you notice everything. You must. Especially with the pets where I go weeks or months between visits- I can tell when they’re a little more unsteady on their paws, when their cataracts are more prominent. Suddenly they’re on medications for pain, and they’re sleeping more. They used to like 30 min walks, now they can barely tolerate 10. Some startle more easily, likely due to vision loss. They can no longer hear me call their name. It never gets any easier, saying goodbye to these angels. I’m just privileged enough to hold their paws for a short period of their lives 🐾 ❤️

✨Meet the Owner ✨⬇️

My name is Gabby and I founded Stay Pawsitive in 2021! My educational background is in business & marketing and I graduated with my BSBA, cm laude, from Sawyer Business School in 2019. I’ve always adored animals- I think every pet sitter would say the same! For me personally, I connect with animals deeply. I notice them. They are truly incredible and more intelligent than most people believe. My favorite thing about animals is their ability to communicate so much to us with zero human words. My love for animals runs deep in my soul. My business degree gave me the drive to become an entrepreneur, but my passion for pet care has carried me forward.

When I’m not caring for YOUR animals, I’m running with my own pack at home. I am lucky to share my home with my beloved French Bulldogs and 4lb chihuahua, and my 8 pet frogs 🐸 I also enjoy a vegetarian diet and love going to restaurants or visiting the movie theater with friends. 🫶🏻

Nice to meet you 🥹
