Please join us in welcoming Brian Thomsen, DVM, Residency Trained in Surgery, to Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital! 🧡

Dr. Thomsen joins our surgical team on September 2, bringing advanced training in both soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. His professional interests include surgical oncology, reconstructive skin and soft tissue surgery, urogenital surgery, and fracture repair.

Originally from Ontario, Canada, Dr. Thomsen completed his DVM at the Ontario Veterinary College before pursuing advanced surgical training and completing his small animal surgery residency in Pennsylvania.

Outside of the hospital, he enjoys playing guitar, cycling, woodworking, and spending time with his two cats. 🐱

We’re excited to have Dr. Thomsen at HVSH and can’t wait for our clients, patients, and referring veterinary community to get to know him. Please help us give him a warm welcome! 🧡

We're seeing more ticks than usual this year, which means a higher risk of Lyme disease for dogs.

Lyme disease is spread through the bite of an infected black-legged (deer) tick. Whether your dog enjoys walks through the neighborhood, hiking trails, or simply spending time in the backyard, they can be exposed.

One of the biggest challenges is that symptoms often don't appear until weeks or even months after an infected tick bite. That's why prevention and early detection are so important.

Keep an eye out for:

We always tell our team to chase big dreams... even when it means we have to say goodbye.

We recently celebrated Amanda as she wrapped up her last day at Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital. Over the past year and a half, she's cared for so many patients and become such a special part of our team.

Now she's off to UC Davis after receiving a full scholarship to pursue both her DVM and a PhD in Genetics. What an incredible accomplishment.

We sent her off with a surprise potluck and a road trip bag full of love from her HVSH family.

Amanda, thank you for letting us be a small part of your journey. We already know you're going to do amazing things. Safe travels, and remember you'll always have a home here. 🧡

Peanut came to Hickory Veterinary and Specialty Hospital as an emergency for back pain... and left looking like the coolest patient in the hospital. 😎🐾

Those stylish goggles aren't just for looks. They protect Peanut's eyes during therapeutic laser treatment, which can help reduce inflammation, ease pain, and promote healing.

After an exam with Dr. DelGiudice, Peanut was prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and received laser therapy for some immediate relief.
