**She literally started jumping up and down. 😂🌱**

I’m not even kidding.

A customer came to the farm looking for fall vegetable plants, and when she saw that we actually had the varieties she had been hunting for…

**she started jumping up and down.**

And honestly, I understood.

Because finding good fall vegetable starts around here can be HARD.

I see people asking about them constantly in gardening groups:

“Where can I find broccoli plants?”

“Anybody know where I can get cauliflower?”

“Where are the fall starts?”

“Who has cabbage?”

And then the garden centers have plenty of summer plants left, but you walk in looking for fall vegetables and… *crickets.* 😂

That’s why we grow our own.

We spend months planning our fall plant lineup, tracking down good genetics and growing sturdy, healthy transplants specifically for Tennessee gardens.

🥦 Broccoli
💜 Cauliflower
🥬 Cabbage
🌱 Brussels sprouts
🥬 Kale & Kalettes
🥗 Lettuce
🌿 Tatsoi, pac choi & other Asian greens
🥕 Beets
💜 Kohlrabi

…and more.

So when somebody walks into our greenhouse after searching everywhere and finally finds the plants they've been looking for…

Yeah.

**We understand the jumping.** 😂

And if you've been searching for fall plants yourself, come see us.

By the time everybody gets home from school, I know a lot of moms are thinking the same thing…

“Did my kids eat ANYTHING today?” 😂

You packed the lunch. You bought the snacks. You reminded somebody to eat their fruit. And somehow the lunchbox comes home with half of it still sitting there.

Then they walk through the door STARVING.

And now you're trying to figure out how to get something nourishing into them before homework, practices, baths, laundry and bedtime all start happening at once.

This is one of the reasons I love our Fall Produce Club.

Because there is a HUGE difference between putting a bowl of vegetables on the table and putting vegetables on the table that your kids actually get excited about eating.

That butter-sweet lettuce that disappears before you even get the salad dressed.

The winter broccoli that gets sweeter as the weather gets colder.

Carrots that actually taste like carrots.

Greens that aren't bitter and sad.

When vegetables are grown slowly in good soil and harvested fresh, they can taste completely different from something that has spent days traveling to the grocery store.

And those fall crops are especially fun.

Broccoli actually gets sweeter in cold weather. The plant produces more sugars as part of its natural cold-weather protection, which is one reason those cool-season broccoli heads can taste so good after a frost.

That’s the kind of food I want my kids eating.

Not because I’m trying to be the perfect mom.

Lord knows I am NOT. 😂

But because after a long school day, when I can't control what they ate at lunch or whether they actually touched the vegetables I packed…

I want dinner to be the easy part.

I want to put a bowl of fresh lettuce on the table and watch them eat it.

I want roasted broccoli disappearing off the pan before I can even sit down.

I want my kids growing up knowing what a carrot pulled from good Tennessee soil actually tastes like.

And that's really what our Fall Produce Club is about.

Every Thursday, you come to the farm and choose your own produce from what we've harvested that week. It starts this week but you can join any time as long as there are membership spots available.

Some items from our 11 week Fall Season include:

🥬 Butter-sweet lettuce
🥦 Winter broccoli
🥕 Carrots
🌱 Kale & other greens
🧅 Onions
💜 Beets
🥬 Cabbage
🌿 Potatoes + Sweet Potatoes
🌱 Winter Squashes
…and plenty more as the fall season rolls along.

You can also pick up farm-fresh eggs, and Sweet Spot TN brings her famous organic sourdough bread, sourdough cookies and other goodies to the farm.

So yes, you're joining a produce club.

But really?

You're making it a whole lot easier to feed your family good food when you're tired.

Fall Produce Club sign-ups are open now.

We have been working toward this day for MONTHS.

“Looking for cauliflower!”
“Where are y’all finding fall plants?!”

Meanwhile, we’re over here with a greenhouse full of them thinking, **COME ON DOWN!** 😂

But if you already know what you want to grow, I’d come early. The best varieties tend to disappear first. 😉

Fall gardens are one of our favorite things to grow because cooler weather brings out some of the sweetest, most delicious vegetables of the year.

Come see us tomorrow and let’s get your fall garden started! 🍂🥕🥦

🍂 **FALL PLANT SALES START THIS SATURDAY** 🌱

Fall gardening is one of our favorite things to talk people into. 😂

Not because it’s glamorous. It’s because **some of the best vegetables you can grow in Tennessee are cool-weather crops.** Give them a little dirt, sunshine and a good start, and they’ll keep producing while your summer garden is throwing in the towel.

And this weekend, the Paradise Produce greenhouses are opening up for our **Fall Plant Sale!**

We’ve got a BIG lineup this year, including:

🥦 Belstar, Marathon & sprouting broccoli
💜 Purple, Graffiti, Snow Crown & Skywalker cauliflower
🥬 Savoy, green, red & Chinese cabbage
🌱 Brussels sprouts
🥬 Dino, Red Russian, Redbor & curly kale
⭐ Kalettes
🥕 Chioggia, golden & red beets
💜 Purple kohlrabi
🥬 Buttercrunch, Romaine, red leaf, Winter Density, Salanova & baby lettuce mixes
🌿 Arugula, mizuna, mustard, tatsoi & pac choi
🧅 Leeks, green scallions & chives
🥕 Rutabagas
🌿 Cilantro, dill, parsley, celery, fennel, lemon balm, oregano, rosemary, sage & thyme
🌸 And even perennial Echinacea!

These aren't giant, overgrown greenhouse plants that have been babied their whole lives. We grow our transplants **small, sturdy and hardened off for Tennessee weather** so they can get established in your garden without all that transplant shock.

And yes, we put a LOT of thought into what goes into these plants. Our fall varieties are grown from **non-GMO, untreated or organic seed**, and we research the genetics we use.

**THIS SATURDAY + the next 2 Saturdays**

🌱 THIS is why knowing your farmer matters.🌱

Most people assume that if something says “organic,” it automatically means the seed and genetics behind that plant meet every standard they care about.

But there’s a whole rabbit hole hiding in the seed world that most folks have never heard about.

*Cell fusion.*

Cell fusion (often used to create something called cytoplasmic male sterility) is a breeding technique where plant cells are fused in a laboratory to move traits like male sterility into a crop. It’s commonly used in breeding some hybrid vegetables, especially Brassica crops.

And here's the part that surprises people AND ORGANIC FARMERS:

“Organic” in the U.S. does not automatically mean “cell-fusion-free.”

USDA organic rules have some specific distinctions around allowed cell-fusion techniques , but they have approved many broccoli, cauliflower, and other brassica varieties. Sadly, the popular Haukeri Salad Turnip is among the approved altered.

Meanwhile, European organic farming organizations specifically reject cell-fusion-derived varieties and maintain lists of varieties that are free from this breeding technique.

So yes... *you can buy an organic broccoli transplant and still have no idea how the genetics behind that variety were created.*

And we're not okay with that.

Especially when it comes to the food we're growing for our own families.

🌱 Broccoli
🌱 Cauliflower
🌱 Turnips
🌱 Cabbage and other Brassicas

These are some of the crops where cell-fusion-derived varieties can show up in the seed supply.

So we did the hard part.

We dug through seed catalogs.
We tracked genetics.
We researched breeding history.
We hunted down varieties we could feel good about putting in *your* garden.

Because there's a difference between simply saying “we don't use GMOs” and actually knowing what you're planting.

*Our fall transplants are grown right here on our farm, to organic standards, and we've gone the extra mile to source cell-fusion-free varieties.*

That's a whole lot of work most folks will never see.

But that's exactly the point.

You shouldn't have to become a plant geneticist to feel good about the broccoli you're putting in your garden. 😂

**That's our job.**

So when you buy a plant from us, you're not just buying a broccoli plant.

You're buying the hours of research, the seed sourcing, the growing, the hardening off, the greenhouse work, and a farmer who actually cares enough to know *where that plant came from.*

Because *knowing your farmer matters.*

And having a farmer who knows their genetics?

*That matters, too.* ❤️🌱
