A Winnipeg judge handed down a historic 12-year prison sentence on February 11, 2026, for a pair convicted of extreme animal cruelty and torture.
The sentence is the longest ever recorded in Canadian history for such crimes. It follows a lengthy investigation into a group that sold disturbing footage online.
Justice Jeffrey Harris stated that the severity of the acts went far beyond anything he had seen. Protesters gathered outside the court to support the ruling.
