Dahlia got to be the first of my clients to try out equine flipflop (aka flapper pads) shoes! She loves her VIP status 😎. The flipflop is a wedged rubber composite used in addition to shoes to provide extra support for hooves, especially for the heels. It also positively influences the mechanical difference in the way the knee flexes during impact and loading phases of the stride. Dahlia has been battling intermittent lameness since winter due to ringbone and side bone in both her fronts. Traditionally, different types of wedge and rim pad shoes have been used to help horses like Dahlia. In contrast to other methods, the flipflop offers a much thicker cushion for the hoof and we wanted to see if they would maximize her comfort levels better than the methods we've already tried. So far Dahlia thinks they are pretty neat :) we noticed an immediate comfort difference once the shoes were applied.

Same horse trying an extended toe to try to help with contracted tendons.. may need to have tendon cut to relieve it but wanted to trim this first.

Horse was presented with contracted tendons,extended toe shoes was not going to work so shoe was made with a wedge in the to to slowly strech tendon and not allow the foot to break forward.. vet is involved.. hopefully this will help this little guy..
