WE HAVE OUR SUMMER DOG VIP! ☀️🐾🏆

Congratulations to the absolutely wildly adorable Merri Jayne! 🎉👑

That wind-in-her-hair photo clearly captured some hearts. 😂💕 Honestly, the girl knows how to work a camera!

But this one is extra special for me. Merri Jayne and her sister Lady Dog were the very first pups to ever visit The Nest Unleashed on Sniffspot… and they’ve been coming to see us almost every week ever since. 🥹🐾 And we totally miss them when they don't!

They were here at the very beginning, before I had any idea what this little place would become, and getting to watch them make The Nest part of their routine has been pretty darn special. 💕

So I guess that officially makes Merri Jayne our OG VIP! 👑🐾💕

Kind of chic to go on a journey of self-discovery with your rescue dog. 🩷🐾
If there was one thing I didn’t see coming when I started learning the CDD method with Mika, it was how much trying to understand her would teach me about myself.

I went into this wanting to better understand the dog I had adopted. Her fears. Her reactions. What made her feel safe. What she was trying to communicate instead of immediately looking at something as a behavior that needed to be changed.

What I didn’t expect was how often I would recognize pieces of myself in the process.

Because the more I’ve learned about dogs recovering from their past experiences, the more I’ve noticed some pretty incredible parallels to our own journeys.

How safety changes us.

How something that looks like an overreaction to someone else can make perfect sense when you understand what came before it.

How healing doesn’t necessarily mean becoming the person or dog you were before something happened.

How sometimes you don’t even know who you really are until you finally feel safe enough to find out.

And maybe most importantly, how being loved doesn’t mean someone needs to fix every imperfect part of you.

I thought I was embarking on a journey to better understand Mika.

Turns out, we were going on a little journey of self-discovery together. That's why unleashed is soo much deeper for me.

And honestly? Kind of chic. 🩷

Kind of chic to recognize who your rescue dog IS, not who you expected them to be. 🩷🐾

Most of us bring a dog home with a picture in our heads of what life together will look like.

Maybe you imagined patio lunches and breweries. Dog parks and playdates. Traveling together. A dog who loves everyone they meet, cuddles on command and happily tags along wherever life takes you.

And then you meet your dog.

Maybe they’d rather watch than play. Maybe strangers make them uncomfortable. Maybe they’re cautious instead of outgoing, independent instead of cuddly, or happiest exploring somewhere quiet with just you.

That doesn’t mean you got the wrong dog. And it doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be “fixed.”

One of the things The CDD Method has taught me is the difference between teaching a dog and trying to change who they are.

We can teach skills. We can help them navigate our very human world. We can build confidence and create opportunities for growth.

But their personality belongs to them.

And there’s something pretty beautiful about letting go of the dog you pictured long enough to really get to know the one standing in front of you.

Teaching them how to navigate your life isn’t the same as requiring them to enjoy the life you imagined.

Kind of chic, actually. 🩷
