L'Acadiane Equine Management LLC Excellent horse care, dressage and jumping training

09/07/2026

This is why we train.

Not because every ride is perfect.

Not because progress is always fast.

But because, over time, the right training can change the way a horse moves, thinks and feels—and change the confidence of the rider alongside them.

This is the progress we’re proudest of.

2 UP. 1 DOWN. 👆👇

It looks simple…

…but it’s one of our favorite exercises for ALL levels of riders.

Dressage? ✅
Jumpers? ✅
Beginner? ✅
Advanced? Absolutely.

Why?

It challenges the rider to:
✔️ Find their balance
✔️ Become more independent
✔️ Stay centered
✔️ Follow the horse’s movement
✔️ Control their body without interfering with the horse

And for the horse, it helps develop rhythm, balance, adjustability, and connection.

For jumpers, it’s especially useful because you’re constantly asking the horse to change balance and adjust stride while YOU stay organized.

For dressage riders, it’s a great way to see whether your horse can maintain rhythm and balance without you simply following the same posting pattern. Also a great way to control the tempo.

Simple exercise. BIG benefits.

Try it next ride—and tell us what you notice! 🐴

6 strides or 7? 👀

Two poles. One exercise. Two very different lessons.

Set two poles on the ground at a distance where your horse can comfortably make 6 strides.

➡️ Ride for 6: Think forward. Allow the stride to open while maintaining rhythm, balance, and straightness.

➡️ Ride for 7: Think collect. Shorten the stride without slowing the canter or losing impulsion.

The goal isn’t to rush for 6 or pull for 7.

It’s learning to adjust the stride while keeping the canter balanced, powerful, and organized.

This is such a useful exercise for jumping horses because the same skill applies between the fences: sometimes we need more step, sometimes we need more collection — but we always want the horse in front of the leg and connected to the contact.

Try it both ways and see which one your horse finds easier. Then you know exactly what you need to work on. 🐴

6 = forward
7 = collection
Both = adjustability.

Save this one for your next jumping-school day!

🐴 Your horse doesn’t need to work hard every day to make progress.

Some of the most valuable training days are the ones that don’t look like training. 👀

Active recovery days can help your horse:
✨ Move without adding significant workload
✨ Loosen up and encourage circulation
✨ Process the work you’ve done
✨ Maintain mobility and suppleness
✨ Come back to the next training session feeling better—not more tired

Think: a long, relaxed walk, hacking, stretching, light pole work, or an easy ride focused on relaxation rather than “getting something done.”

And yes… sometimes the best training decision you can make is “today, we’re just going for a walk.” 😂

Your horse doesn’t read the calendar. They don’t know it’s Tuesday and you planned to have a serious training session.

Listen to the horse in front of you. ❤️

Active recovery isn’t doing less. It’s part of doing better.
