Birds have incredibly efficient respiratory systems — which is exactly what makes them so vulnerable. Unlike mammals, air flows through their lungs in one direction and cycles through a network of air sacs that reach deep into their bodies. It's what lets them fly at altitudes that would knock us out. It's also why a respiratory issue can escalate fast.

Anything airborne — smoke, aerosols, mold spores, ammonia from soiled bedding, even nonstick cookware fumes — can cause serious distress. And because birds instinctively hide illness, by the time you notice labored breathing, tail bobbing, or open-mouth breathing, they often need help immediately.

Supplemental oxygen can make a real difference while you get to a vet. This gorgeous girl is resting comfortably thanks to one of our PureVent Chambers that her family keeps on hand. Preparedness isn't just for dogs and cats. 💙

Every day, the dogs of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics put their noses — and their lives — on the line alongside their handlers to keep Oklahoma communities safe. They work long days in demanding conditions, often in the field, far from any veterinary support.

What happens when one of those dogs needs help right now?

That question is what brought Pawprint Oxygen to Oklahoma City this month. We donated 15 canine rescue oxygen kits to the OBN canine team and partnered with VEG ER for Pets to deliver a full day of CPR and trauma first aid training for nine of the team's handlers.

We left feeling proud. Then, just a few days later, we got a message from the head training officer — and a photo that said everything.

One of the team's K9 officers had overheated during a day of field training under the Oklahoma sun. His handler — trained just days earlier — reached for his kit and used it, right there on site, exactly as he'd been trained to do.

We don't take that lightly. That's the whole reason we built this company.

Pawprint Oxygen and Veterinary Emergency Group OKC donated oxygen kits and trained nine OBN handlers. Days later, one of those kits was used when a K9 officer overheated during field training. As seen on KFOR News 4 Oklahoma.

At 2am, when your dog is struggling to breathe, you don't have time to Google what to do.

We wrote this guide so you never have to be caught off guard.

It covers:
🐾 The signs that mean your pet is in real distress (not just panting)
🫁 The conditions most likely to cause a breathing emergency
🚗 What to do in the car on the way to the ER
🏠 Why having oxygen at home can make all the difference — and potentially save you thousands in vet bills

Whether your dog has been diagnosed with CHF, collapsing trachea, or you just have a Frenchie or Bulldog at home — this one's for you.

👇 Read it at the link below. Share it with a pet owner who needs it.

Learn to recognize signs of respiratory distress in dogs and cats, which conditions need oxygen therapy, and how to prepare before an emergency strikes.

“We didn’t know if he would make it there.”

When this kitty arrived at in respiratory distress, he was stable in the clinic’s tank—but he needed an ER transfer ASAP. The problem? The car ride. 🚗🆘

Thanks to Pawprint Oxygen, the team was able to send oxygen support with him, ensuring he kept breathing easy all the way to the 24-hour hospital.

The Takeaway: Portable oxygen isn’t just a “nice to have”—it’s a vital rescue tool during those critical minutes of transport.

Drop a ❤️ if you’re thankful for our amazing vet techs!
