Daisy & Yara are truly best friends, and I absolutely love watching their bond grow. ❤️

They’re both doing such a great job holding their place together, even with distractions around them. Moments like this are exactly why structure and consistency are so important!

It’s not just about obedience, it’s about teaching m how to settle, listen, respect boundaries, and coexist calmly while still getting to enjoy being dogs and having fun together.

These two are the perfect example of how training and friendship can go hand in hand. 🐶💕

We worked with Charlie on leash walking and this sweet Beagle has spent most of his life being a pretty heavy puller. And honestly… can you blame him? 😂 He’s a Beagle! There are smells to investigate, things to explore, and an entire world happening around him! 👃🏼🐶

But with guidance, communication, and consistency, Charlie was SO focused! This was his first-ever leash walking lesson, and he absolutely loved having a job to do.

One of my favorite parts of this session wasn’t just seeing Charlie improve, it was watching him and his owners work together as a team. Instead of a walk being frustrating for everyone, they were communicating, working through challenges, and actually enjoying the walk together. 🥹

That’s what dog training is all about. It’s not about having a “perfect” dog overnight, it’s about teaching our dogs how to understand us and giving owners the tools and confidence to communicate clearly.

We are SO excited to keep working with Charlie and his family and continue shaping him into the best little walker he can be! 🐾

Dogs Don't Think Like Humans and That's Okay!

One of the biggest mistakes dog owners make is expecting their dog to reason like a person.

Dogs live in the moment. They learn through association, timing, repetition, and consequences. They aren't trying to be stubborn, spiteful, or dominant, they simply repeat behaviors that have worked for them in the past.

When owners learn how dogs actually process information, training becomes clearer, communication improves, and frustrating behaviors begin to disappear. The better you understand your dog, the better your dog will understand you!

Well… we got ourselves a Pittie girl!

Our newest puppy, Yara’s doggy DNA test, and the results came back…

100% American Pit Bull Terrier.

But it also got me thinking about all the stereotypes that come with certain breeds.

“Pit bulls are aggressive.”
“They can’t be trusted.”
“They’re dangerous.”
“They’re all the same.”

Yet here’s Yara. ❤️

She’s goofy, loving, smart, stubborn, playful, affectionate, and completely her own individual dog.

Breed can give us insight into natural tendencies, and certain drives, but it never tells the whole story. Every dog is an individual with their own personality, experiences, and needs.

At Pivotal Dog Training, we believe in looking at the dog, not just the label. Every dog deserves to be understood as an individual, trained according to their needs, and given the opportunity to show us who they really are. 🐾

Makoa has been working incredibly hard on his resource guarding, especially learning to feel comfortable and confident around other dogs when resources are present.

He’s now able to be around other dogs in situations that previously would have been much more difficult for him, and we’re seeing some really great progress. 🐾

There’s still work to do, but he’s settling in, building confidence, and learning that he doesn’t have to worry about everything around him.

Believe it or not, boundaries don't make dogs unhappy, they make them feel secure! When your dog knows what's expected, they're less anxious, more confident, and easier to live with.
