Bernard Dog Run

Bernard Dog Run Opened September 9, 2012 Bernard Dog Run initiative was started in 2008 to found a dog park in Pittsburgh's Lawrenceville neighborhood.

It was named for the late Jay Bernard, a Lawrenceville resident, community activist and abandoned dog advocate. The park opened to the public and their pups on September 9, 2012.

**Please note that the only street access is from 40th St. GPS and mapping applications may try to take you though 36-39th st, but these are private commercial properties with no through-access.

The parking lot closest to the dog park will have some spaces closed off Friday (tomorrow), 10/22 during business hours so that tucks can be brought in to do some tree and other plantings. Please do not remove the tape or park in the taped off areas so that work can be completed.

We are organizing clean up day at the Lawrenceville dog park this Sunday (10/24) from 9am-11am to clean up weeds & distribute mulch.

The Bernard Dog Run is maintained by the community, not the city. So if you take advantage of the dog park (or just like having it around), then grab a shovel/rake/wheelbarrow/etc. and come spend a few hours keeping this community-run resource going in our neighborhood.

We need two volunteers to come down this afternoon (4pm @ 8/3) to help move a water barrel into the park so that pups can have water during the hot months. If you have 10 minutes to spare this afternoon, please come help Charles carry the barrel into the park.

Safety changes to Bernard Dog Run, aka Lawrenceville Dog Park

It has come to our attention that many users of the Bernard Dog Run (aka- the Lawrenceville Dog Park) have not been following CDC COVID-19 safety guidelines while on the premises.

Until further notice, the small dog park will be reserved only for those individuals who are considered high risk for COVID-19 complications (e.g., >60 years old, immunocompromised, pulmonary conditions). We ask that if you are not in a high risk category, you only use the larger section of the dog park.

In addition, regardless of what section of the dog park you use, a mask and adherence social distancing of the humans are required at all times. If you see someone violating these rules speak up. If public safety guidelines continue to be violated, we may be forced to close the dog park altogether until the pandemic passes.

City Park Guidelines can be found here:

🚨 Reminder that the large side of the park is still closed due to unsafe conditions.

The City Forestry Division is on-site in the large side of the park addressing the fallen trees in the park and along the main trail. Please use caution in the area and remember that your dogs should be leashed until they are inside of the park. Only the small side of the park is open at this time. It will be loud and there will be a lot of activity, so please plan accordingly.

08/19/2019

With all the storm damage in the City after the microburst, the City Forestry division is sure to be busy. We’ll be working with them and other trail partners in the coming days to remove the downed trees and make repairs so the park can be put back into use. We’ll provide updates as we can.
