Only 2 Tour & Explores left in 2026 🤯

These tours are extra special. First, on Halloween day, we're celebrating with vegan trick-or-treating and plenty of other family-friendly activities 🎃

Then, on Nov. 21, we're giving extra love to beautiful animals who don't get enough attention: turkeys 🦃

Don't miss out on your chance to make the season magical this year. Tickets for both events are below 👇

Big thanks to the UNC Biology Honor Society for volunteering with us last Sunday! They helped us with predator-proofing by removing brush in one of the duck houses and also contributed to our regular Sunday housecleaning, ending their trip by visiting with our Refuge cow herd. We love our work groups--thank you so much, and come back anytime!

This week, we've had the privilege of being helped by Elainea, an awesome high school intern completing some volunteer hours with us. It's been awesome showing her around the Refuge and getting her assistance with data entry, cleaning, graphic creation, and more!

"I learned about the Refuge by seeing the business sign every time we drive by," she says. "So far, I've learned that cows are a lot bigger than what they seem while driving by farms."

The Refuge was a natural fit for her, as she wants to study animal medicine and animal science in college. Thanks to this week-long internship, she's had a chance to spend quality time with all of the species at the Refuge in addition to helping out around the office. And while she's loved them all, there's one she immediately felt connected to.

"I have really bonded with Fiesta; she has been my favorite animal at the farm so far."

Enjoy these pictures from her time here (including some taken by her!) and join us in thanking her for all of her help 🙌
