Fox-fire Taxidermy Fox-fire Taxidermy is a full-time shop in Central NC. I do what I describe as "careful taxidermy".

About prices..... Prices vary widely from one shop to another and the quality of the product can be very different as well. My goal is to give my clients good solid mounts that they can be proud of, using high quality materials. My prices generally run a bit more than many others but I put lots of hours into a mount in my effort to please, and I do not use the cheapest materials. My prices are sub

It's always a good idea to phone ahead as I sometimes am pulled away from the shop during normal hours but drop-in visits are fine.

Looking back at some old photos of some of my taxidermy work I came across this. It is among some of my favorite projects that I ever have done. The bass is a skin mount and the frog is a replica. My client had the basic idea of what he wanted but left the overall design up to me. I liked it then and I still like how it came together.

I've been a sort of a skull guy most of my life. I have been a hunter more than 50 years of my life. In 2008 I killed a doe with my bow that I had hunted the previous year without success. I had seen her and even had her close enough to take with my arrow but with thick cover I chose to let her walk. Later I could have shot her with my muzzle loader but decided to wait and hunt her again with my bow. That next year I got her at about 18 yards. This doe was obviously very old which is what had caused me to hunt her. I sent two teeth off to deerage.com and they aged her at 12.5 years old.....the oldest deer that I have ever taken as far as I know. Look at the excessive tooth wear and the missing teeth. She was getting to the place where processing food would be a big challenge. For me she was a special "get" and still stands out in my memory as one of my favorite hunts.

I have enjoyed the turkey hunting this season about as much as I could hope for. This gobbler has been VERY VOCAL here at the end of our season. 3 other mornings I thought I might take him but each time he turned away. He gobbled at my calls and played with me and I had begun to think he would never come all of the way. This morning he gobbled starting early- his usual way. I counted his gobbles,,,,30! At gobble 21 I clucked just a few times and he screamed at me! So exciting!! He was roosted only 50 yards from where I sat against an old maple tree and at 6:07am he flew down close. It was a 10 yard shot.

The pictures are sort of weird since the backdrop is too short for the mount but it is what it is. This one is one of my own deer and is on a strange cedar tree that I found while turkey hunting last year. I can't imagine why the cedar grew in such a "wrinkled" way but it was dead and I liked it. I finished this one today.
