The Goathouse Refuge

The Goathouse Refuge Potter and sculptor Siglinda Scarpa, a native of Italy, makes her life here with the land and many, many animals.

The Goathouse Refuge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill animal sanctuary located in Pittsboro, NC, dedicated to providing cage-free care for cats regardless of age, medical issues or disposition until a permanent, loving home can be found. The cats are housed in a studio building and are free to roam among the artists, staff, volunteers and visitors in a 1 acre, cat-safe enclosure. The refuge is a

safe haven for cats who would have been euthanized in over-crowded shelters, for cats that have been considered "un-adoptable," and for cats that were unwanted or abandoned. Handsome Majestic was found as a stray and scanned for a microchip. He did have one, but unfortunately still lost his family and was entered into a municipal shelter. The Goathouse rescued him and he came to the Refuge in December of 2022. He is very sweet and friendly, but also laid-back: really, all this boy wants is a loving home where he can live out his golden years with a family who truly loves him. He gets along fine with other cats as well as dogs at the refuge, although we think he’d also be just fine as an only cat.

Shadow 3 is a handsome tuxedo kitty that was an outdoor stray being fed with three other kitties. The caretaker was moving and could not relocate them, so he asked the refuge to take them in. Shadow 3 is a little shy, but he is learning to to trust the volunteers and kitties he has met at the Refuge. Come visit the Refuge and meet Shadow 3 and his friends and see if he or one of his friends is the right kitty for you!

1) Complete our online adoption application: Visit www.goathouserefuge.org/adoption-application/ to get started!
2) Come for a Visit: We are open 11am - 3 PM Saturday and Sunday. Fridays are by appointment.
3) Complete a home visit: Once you confirm that you've visited in person with the cat(s) of interest and completed the online application, your responses will be reviewed by the refuge staff so that a volunteer member of our home visit team can contact you to schedule a visit. Only after a representative of the refuge has visited the applicant's home will the refuge consider continuing with the adoption process.
