Purina Incredible Dog Challenge 2026

She is at the beginning running down the dock with water flying off her. She is wearing a multicolor beaded collar.

Then she is one of the dogs that is at the beginning of the dogs who are doing Air Retrieve. There is a snippet of her grabbing the bumper.

I’m so proud of her! I know it’s just snippets, but they had a LOT of dogs they could have chosen and they picked Bert!

If I can figure out how to record it, I will and post it.

Bert reminded me there is no “I” in team!

Team Orange Distance dogs tried their best, but with the two dogs picked to jump unfortunately jumping significantly under their 2025 average there was no way for Bert to ‘close the gap’ even though she jumped OVER her 2025 AR average!

I felt pretty good Bert could do a 19’ grab when she got to jump in the Quarterfinals. She missed the 20’ grab in the first round but I just felt like there was a decent chance of her busting out a 20’ grab during Quarterfinals. And Bertha proved me right with a STRONG 20’ grab! Sadly it wasn’t enough to move Team Orange into the Semifinals. So our time on the dock came to an end!

Congrats goes to Team Blue (aka Team Philadelphia) on your win at the inaugural AKC/ESPN Team Challenge!

This event will air July 4th on ESPN! I’ll post the time when they release it to us.

And here is another reminder that the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge is airing on ESPN THIS SUNDAY @ 3:00 pm! I’m hoping Bert makes a cameo appearance, but that might not happen since we didn’t make it into the finals!

Picture complements of the table sitting next to us at dinner who said they had a great day at work watching all the dogs jumping and happened to get some pics (and potentially some videos!) of Bertha doing Air Retrieve! Thanks guys! That made our day that you took the time to watch us AND took pics and videos!

Team Orange was in last place going into the Air Retrieve. Team Big Bertha jumped a 19’ jump and Team Lyta busted out a 21’ which put Team Orange in SECOND PLACE going into the Quarterfinals!!!

Team Orange picked Bertha to jump in the Quarterfinals. Hopefully she can be her normal steady eddy self and bring another 19’ jump which will hopefully be enough to bring us into the Semifinals where Lyta will take the dock.

“Come to the Marine Parade Grounds NOW to cheer on TEAM ORANGE!!!”

Bert will be on the dock probably within an hour or so! She got picked to do Air Retrieve in the first round!

The AKC/NADD Team Challenge is happening THIS FRIDAY at the Marine Parade Grounds at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA! The event starts at 9:00 am. This is the first time this event is being offered, and dogs had to qualify to be invited.

Bertha is one of the 48 dogs/8 teams (Bertha's on 'Team 5') of six dogs, four 'open' dogs, and two ‘lap’ dogs. I believe Bert is the only Chesapeake in the competition! Two of the six (one open and one lap) will do Air Retrieve and the remaining will do Distance Jumping. I don’t know which discipline Bert will be doing until her team meets up Thursday for the event meeting and practice.

If anyone is available to come out to cheer for Bert and her team, I would love a cheering crowd! Be sure to bring a chair and some snacks/drinks as it looks like it’s going to be a HOT day!

If you do plan on coming, please leave your four legged companions at home as this is not an event where uninvited dogs are welcome. Saturday and Sunday they are having a ‘normal’ NADD event, so dogs are welcome to come then.

ESPN will be filming the event. Not sure when it will air, but I’ll be sure to share those details just as soon as I get them!

Speaking of ESPN…
Bertha’s jaunt down to Clearwater, FL for the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge will be airing on ESPN this Sunday, 7 June at 3:00pm! I’m pretty sure Bert won’t be featured as we did not make it into the finals, but who knows, she might have a cameo appearance!
