🐴 Doing Rescue Differently

At Hill Country Horse Rescue, responsible rescue means knowing our limits.

We only take in the number of horses we can properly care for. Sometimes that means saying “we’re full.” It’s never easy, but every horse already in our care deserves our full commitment.

That responsibility continues with adoption. We carefully screen potential adopters and work to find the right home for the right horse. Our goal isn’t the fastest adoption—it’s a safe, lasting one.

We may not be able to save every horse, but we can do right by every horse we say YES to. ❤️🐴

Your support helps us continue saying YES when the right horse needs us. Whether you donate, sponsor, volunteer, adopt, or simply share our mission, you are part of giving these horses brighter days ahead.

There are a lot of scams out there right now. This is a FREE webinar to help distinguish between real and fake!

‼️DON'T MISS OUT! ‼️

🔍A great horse deal can quickly turn into a costly lesson when an online transaction isn’t what it appears to be. To help horse owners recognize and avoid fraud, the American Horse Council (AHC) will host a free live webinar, featuring Special Rangers from the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA), “Don’t Get Taken for a Ride: Avoiding Online Horse Scams,” on September 21 at 1:00 p.m. EST.

Protecting animals takes a caring community. ❤️ Thank you to the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office for helping keep animals safe in Bandera County and the surrounding areas.

We also thank everyone who supports Hill Country Horse Rescue and has their shared concerns about the active investigation in Bandera County. We will not comment on the active investigation, but we remain focused on our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and caring for horses in need—one horse at a time.

We invite anyone to visit the rescue, meet our horses, and learn about our work. We’re open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or by appointment by calling (830) 510-6607.
If you cannot visit, you’re welcome to contact Carole, our President, at the number above, or Kris, our Vice President, at (210) 540-0306. Please leave a message with your full contact details, and one of us will get back to you.

If you suspect an animal is being mistreated or neglected, please call your local Sheriff’s Office to file a report. Speaking up can help protect an animal in need.

🇺🇸 We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget. 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders and everyday heroes who showed incredible courage in the face of tragedy.

May we also remember the unity, compassion, and strength that brought our country together in the days that followed.

From all of us at Hill Country Horse Rescue, we honor their memory today and always.
Never forgotten. ❤️🤍💙 🇺🇸🐴

🐴❤️ ADOPTED! ❤️🐴
Our sweet Halo has officially found a wonderful new home!

This picture was taken as we were dropping her off, and apparently Halo wasn’t too impressed with us stopping for one last photo. That side-eye says it all: “You can go now. I’ve got this.” 😂👀🐴

Watching one of our horses step into their new life is always a special moment. We’re so happy knowing Halo has a wonderful home where she will be loved and cared for.
Happy trails, sweet Halo! We’re going to miss you, but seeing you find your forever home is what rescue is all about. ❤️

❤️🐴 Love was in the air at Hill Country Horse Rescue! 💍

We are so excited to share a very special moment that happened right here at the rescue. A wonderful couple who sponsors our sweet Bishop, also known as Rusty, chose HCHR as the place to begin their next chapter together—and she said YES! ❤️
It means so much to us when our sponsors form a special connection with one of our horses, and even more when the rescue becomes part of their own special memories.
Congratulations to the happy couple! We are honored that Bishop/Rusty and Hill Country Horse Rescue got to be a small part of such a beautiful moment.
We wish you both a lifetime of love, happiness, and plenty of horses along the way! 🐴❤️💍

We hope everyone is enjoying this Labor Day weekend! Our horses are enjoying the day too! When you see a horse safe in our pasture, there’s a whole story of work behind that moment. ❤️🐴

There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes at Hill Country Horse Rescue that the public—and even many of our volunteers—may never see.

Beyond caring for the horses each day, there are phone calls, paperwork, vet and farrier appointments, surrender requests, adoptions, grants, fundraising, bills, repairs, emergencies, and countless little things it takes to keep a rescue running.
Most of this work happens quietly, but every bit of it matters. It allows us to be here when a horse needs a safe place to land.

If you believe in our mission, please consider supporting us by donating, sharing our posts, or spreading the word. Your support helps us continue giving horses the second chances they deserve—one horse at a time. ❤️

Stay tuned to learn about "Ringo" and how he is healing in our care!

Sweet moments like this are so rewarding to see! Rusty always has to come say hi to Gypsy and Clancy when he’s out grazing.
