Spirit 🥰 This guy's story deserves to finally be public. I always hesisted to post him due to the nature of how he was found....literally.

My uncle found this horse in the middle of the woods. Showed up on his hunting property and was there for months. He had a pond and grass so his case wasnt urgent. But, nobody could catch him. At Thanksgiving my uncle told me about this little squatter. We were worried with winter coming he could go hungry or not have access to water at some point. My husband and I loaded 2 horses and drove 4 hours. We searched high and low for him and couldn't find him anywhere. After we finally split up to look i heard hooves come crashing through the woods at me. It was Spirit and he was SSOOO happy to see another horse. While he was paying more attention to my horse than me I very quickly got a rope around his neck. I was prepared to let go if he took off. But, he didnt. Once I had him...I had him. I thought that was odd. He ponied all the way down the mountain with zero hesitation. We got to the trailer and I just knew it would take us HOURS to load him so I attempted to load him immediately. He walked right in! I couldnt believe it. So, I pushed it a little further and saddled him and climbed on. He was a little nervous but he stood there. This horse was broke. Left in the woods for MONTHS but he was broke?!?! It just didnt make sense. There were attempts to find his home but he was never claimed. Spirit spent a couple of weeks with my amazing friend and she said he was great and was obviously a trained horse. Spirit eventually came to live with me and did trail rides and became a lesson horse. He was a favorite of so many students. We knew he was older but he was in fantatic shape and was so willing. We had good years with Spirit. Unfortunately, he choked and never fully recovered. We lost him a few months later. Spirit was loved from the day he was rescued until the day we lost him. He knew the love of little girls and always had a full belly. My husband sent me these pictures from the first time riding him at home and it made my soul happy. I wanted to share the wild story of how we got out very own Spirit.

We got lucky and caught Rosie grazing in the round pen and worked on how to work a cow on horseback. Driving from behind and turning them back. We all enjoyed it.....except Rosie. 😂 She was less than impressed.

We love our families at Sumler Farms. This sweet momma and her curly haired boy have Sumler Farms to themselves for a trail ride or just a nice ride across the pasture. 🤠

When students ride at Sumler Farms I understand that I dont get to keep them forever, sadly. Someday, they will outgrow me, have other interests or just decide their equine journey has come to an end. I am always so grateful for people that trust me with the safety of their families. These young ladies have ridden with me for 4 years. I watched them grow from little girls bumping around at the trot to confident young women who can ride any horse at Sumler Farms. Their parents committed to 4 years of driving every week to our farm. They will always be a part our Sumler Farms family and will be missed SO much. Heres to new adventures for the Sweet girls!!

After taking a mother-and-daughter pair on a trail ride today, Beauty got a little spa day of her own!
Hands-on bodywork, cupping, and RockTape help keep her feeling comfortable and moving her best. Between the summer heat, rich grass, flies, and her workload, horses can experience extra physical stress this time of year.
Taking care of our horses is just as important as the experiences they provide for our guests. ❤️🐴

‼️‼️Vulerbable post ahead. But, if we dont share how will ohers know! ‼️‼️

The longer we are in business and the more I speak with others in this industry the more we hear that equine services are "expensive".
Honestly, I understand why someone outside the horse world might think that. Most people simply don’t realize what proper horse care actually costs behind the scenes.

This month alone, here’s a small glimpse into caring for our herd:

• Veterinary x-ray appointments for sore horses: $500
(These horses were not lame or limping. Horses are incredibly stoic and often hide discomfort well. The x-rays revealed issues that could only be diagnosed through imaging.)

• Dental work for 9 horses + 1 donkey: $1,250
• Hay for the month: $550
• Bodywork for 4 horses: $500
• CSI saddle pads: $600
• Better fitting saddle: $550
• Tack updates for comfort and fit: $137
• Specialized feed regimen for one recovering horse: about $7/day
• Shoes and pads every 6 weeks for 3 horses: $175 each

And that doesn’t include fencing, maintenance, vaccines, supplements, fly control, utilities, or the countless hours spent caring for them every single day.

We love these horses deeply. We don’t want them working with sore bodies, sharp teeth, poor saddle fit, or unbalanced feet. Their comfort and wellbeing will always come first.

This post isn’t meant to shame anyone for asking questions about pricing — only to educate and offer a little transparency into the reality of responsible horse ownership.

When you support a small horse business, you’re helping support the care that keeps these animals healthy, comfortable, and happy. 🤍
