We tried a few combinations this summer, trying to find the perfect paring, and found that these two special needs ponies are the perfect buddies.
Chickie is elderly and has Cushings Disease while Cricket is about 20 years old and is 100% blind due to chronic uveitis prior to coming to live with us.
Do you have a special senior horse in your life?

Sebastian has joined our flock. He is a Scottish Blackface, and will be crossed with our ewes for the 2027 lambing.

Sometimes life throws a curveball and your pony has a reaction to the new bedding in the trailer.
August came off the trailer, and it was clear once L tacked up that he was having a flareup and the best thing to do was to scratch.
L did it without complaint, just wanting what was best for her pony.
I was able to Frankenstein tack we had in the trailer to get the Inky Dinky on Shadow. She ride the Equitation pattern at a walk, but she got to ride. Two months ago I wouldn't have even thought this was possible, but both have grown so much.

We were packing up and heading home, and accidentally won the bid on this guy. Ops!
Can't say I'm mad.
Welcome to the farm Friday!
He's a 4 year old Morgan, who's had amazing manners for a 4 year old in QT for the last few weeks. He's still definitely 4, but he rides and drives.
I am excited to see what we can do with him.

What are some of the highlights from your summer?

Our crew here at Figure Eight Farm has had a busy season.

The garden put out squash, tomatoes, basil, peas, cilantro, corn, pumpkins, and much more.

Our flock of sheep has grown, and we have lamb in the freezer for the year.

We processed 55 chickens for our family and had 3 go through the 4-H sale.

We had several horses show consistently this summer, with a total of 9 shows, three clinics attended and all but the youngest of our family enter the ring, as well as several friends take up the rein for a chance to show and clinic.
We participated in two county fairs and had several of our items entered bring home blues.

The season is not over, and we still have several shows, clinics and hunter paces to attend.

It has been a wild year of growth, and we can't wait to see what the fall will bring!

Larry update!
This past winter we got Larry aka Seeyalaterbye from MMXX Standardbreds, right off the track.
He spent the spring with some down time hanging out with old ranch horses and OTTBs out to pasture.

On occasion he's taken a few trailer rides to Lake Country Horsemens Association for an outing to see the sights and work in hand over some obstacles. We've also been doing some ground driving, getting to know him and building from there.

He has a great brain and is curious, but socially awkward when it comes to his turn outbuddies.

Fall means enjoying the special events of New York, including the Genesee Valley Hunt Races. If you haven't experienced this event, I recommend you do! just make sure to have a pair of boots that can handle the mud, because this event happens rain or shine.

We haven't hit autumn yet, but we can certainly look forward to it!
