What a beautiful day for trail riding in Pinckney! 🍂🐴

Fall on the trails might just be one of my favorite things. ❤️

A quick reminder for anyone interested in hitting the trails with us: Hell Creek is not a public trail-riding facility. Our trail rides are part of our horsemanship program and are available by appointment only.

That means your experience starts before we ever hit the trail! Riders participate in grooming and tacking their horse and complete a short arena assessment before heading out.

For everyone’s safety, riders must be able to independently walk, stop, steer and reverse their horse in the arena. If our instructors feel a rider isn’t quite ready for the trail that day, we’ll turn the experience into an arena lesson instead.

It’s never about passing or failing—it’s about making sure both horse and rider are prepared to safely enjoy the trail. 🐴🌲

Did you know horses have two small blind spots?

Because their eyes are positioned on the sides of their heads, horses can see nearly all the way around their bodies. However, they cannot see directly in front of their forehead or immediately behind them.

This is one reason we teach riders to approach horses where they can be seen, speak before walking closely behind them, and pay attention to where the horse is looking.

Understanding how horses experience their surroundings helps us communicate more clearly and handle them more safely.

Why do we limit our group lessons to four riders?

Because “group lesson” shouldn’t mean getting lost in the group.

Smaller classes allow our instructors to watch each rider, make individual corrections, answer questions, and adjust activities when someone needs additional support or a new challenge. Riders still benefit from learning alongside others, but they also receive the guidance they need to develop safe, correct skills.

It creates a supportive environment where riders can learn from one another, celebrate each other’s progress, and build confidence without feeling overlooked.

We currently have limited openings in our beginner Intro to Horses and Western Walk/Jog groups. Message us for placement information!

Sometimes what we need most isn’t another task, appointment, or commitment. Sometimes we simply need a quiet place to breathe.

Horses & Healing is returning to Hell Creek Equestrian Center beginning Monday, September 14. This free weekly gathering gives you an hour to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with yourself in the peaceful presence of horses.

Each Monday will include a guided journaling prompt, a practical natural wellness tip, and undemanding time with our horses. There is nothing you need to accomplish, fix, or prove while you’re here. No riding is involved, and you do not need any previous horse experience.

With the heat of the summer here we had a change up the normal routine - riding is completed before lunch and the afternoon leaves us to water activities in the shade; line trough cleaning! 12 hands are better than 1!
