Deaf dogs are more common than most people realize, and many look and act no different than any other dog. Hearing loss can be present from birth or develop gradually with age, and certain breeds, including Dalmatians, Australian Shepherds, and some terriers, are more likely to be born at least partially deaf.

Watch for signs like not responding to their name, sleeping more deeply than usual, or startling easily. When approached with guided training and meaningful adjustments to care, you can create a safe environment where they can be happy, safe, and at peace.

What’s a VCPR?
Ever wonder why we may need to see your pet before providing certain types of care? It comes down to a VCPR, or Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship. This legal requirement helps us make informed decisions about your pet’s health, and allows us to provide safe, personalized care. If it’s been a while since your pet’s last visit, we’d love to see you!
